Shocking form again from the reds.
Three conceeded in last 5 minutes did make it look worse than it was though.

Any one fancy a bet on Maccabi Haifa.

I never put much stock in pre-season friendly results - although this was a particularly shocking one!!

Does it again highlight the lack of real quality in the EPL?

I think it does. The EPL gets worse year on year.

On that subject my favourite columnist Brian Reade did a good piece today about how all the tabloids said that the EPL teams were going to 'raid' Milan and Juventus for their good players due to the bribery scandal.

Now admittedly Milan did not have to sell in the end, but of the Juve players, none had any interest in heading to England. He says it shows how much of a draw the EPL isn't !!

It only seems to be if the wages are beyond reason and the player is looking to retire on his final 'nest egg'. No-one of any real quality comes here at the peak of their career anymore.

Are we liable to see another Cantona or Bergkamp again? Only those who are finding it a struggle to get a regular place in Italy, Spain or Germany will come here now.

I'm actually dreading the start of the EPL as it's as predictable as the sun rising. All the usual suspects will roar away, while everyone else scraps over their leavings.

I think you will find that Bergkamp and Cantona were struggling themselves to get a game when they joined the english league

Bergkamp was at Inter, but Cantona was just being his 'seagull following' self.

Look at where they've gone though out of Italy - Real and Barca.

European Champions and Capello at Madrid. Two very, very big draws there.

Bergkamp was indeed at Inter, but was struggling really badly. Although it wasn't really his fault as Inter's tactics at the time did not suit him. They tended to play him up front on his own with little support.

Appreciate that - suppose it was just the tabloid press in the UK again making up stories.

Nah. Both Fergie and Benitez claimed they would be 'raiding'. Never much chance of it though.
