What Makes A Club A Big Club?

Is your club a big club?

1) History, current and longterm
2) Stadium size
3) Fan base
4) Trophies won
5) Euro competion most seasons
6) League finishing position

what else?

and how do we measure up?

What defines "big"? There seems to be a new "superclub" thing going on with the top 4, and other sides from Europe.

You could argue that any side that is professional is a "big club", or failing that a team that is at very least known on shores apart from your own.

And don't ask me about West Ham, because I'll say we're relatively big and you'll likely differ on opinion

Meh. I'm not gonna get too into this

It seems as long as you've won at least one of the league, FA Cup or European trophy no matter how many years ago you're a big club, going by current opinion

I think you'll find that Manchester City are a "massive" club .....

A 'bigger' club maybe. Not a 'big' club.

For example:

Are Charlton a big club for signinng Darrent Bent?

West Brom a big club for signing Ellington?

Birmingham a big club for signing Jerome?

Newcastle a big club for signing Shearer?

The answer on all accounts is no.

To be a big club you need many things, for example: Money (aquired through a sustainable model of success and support), a large worldwide support, a history of success, a chance of success in every competition entered.

90% correct.

You know a big club when supporters of rival teams spend most of their time slagging them off...fact...
