Snooker Ace John Spencer Has Died

Just thought I’d let you sports fans know snooker champion John Spencer died last week age 71 last Tuesday.
Some news items here and here, he will be buried today.

A sad loss to one of the few sports played in a sporting way.
As a kid I remember seeing him play deep screw shots and wondering how he did it. These days with even faster cloths etc it's something we just take for granted.
He was one of those who helped snooker into the modern era, and will be sorely missed.

Thanks for that Garrett.

As a 45 year old now, i grew up in the 'Pot Black' era of the 70's, and John Spencer introduced me to the game in many ways.
I never met him, but he came across as everything that a sportsman should. Talented yet modest, a great winner and even better loser; it makes me realise how mortal we all are when one of the true childhood heroes of my generation passes away.

I can only echo what Philly112 has said, I'm 45 as well and so think of John Spencer in the same way. I'm amazed he was 71 though, he never seemed to be that much older than me !

Indeed a sad loss. The first player to make a maximum break during a tournament[not televised].Will be sadly missed by all snooker fans, i am sure.

I have met him on several occasions, i used to play in his snooker club, and he was always a perfect gentleman who would always be happy to help anyone out. A Great man has passed away
