Hmm... Berlusconi didn't have a hand in that one, I'm sure!

Juve deserved to go down 2 divisions as far as I'm concerned - one season is too easy, and it makes the punishment on either Fiorentina or Lazio worse as one of them will now spend 2 seasons in the 2nd division.

Big Summer Sale ----------------------

I take it every team outside Italy will now be jumping for cheap as chips players.

Arrow Juventus Lazio Fiorentina relegated to Serie B

AC Milan will stay in Serie A but will lose 15 points and will be kicked out of the Champions League.

Juventus were also stripped of their last two titles and had 30 points deducted
meaning that they are almost certain to stay down for two seasons.

Lazio were penalised seven points while Fiorentina suffered a 12 point penalty.

Juve could go down to c too, a team got relegated with 46pts from serie b last year, and starting on -30 that could happen.

Hope Spurs grab some decent players.

I wouldn't be so sure, wait until the appeal process has finished... wouldnt surprise me to see sentenances reduced

Serie B is really poor compared to Championship, even with 30 points deduction, if they keep their players wouldn't surprise me to see them get straight out, remember you play 42 games in Serie B

Cool Italian Relegations

Anyone else smell a rat in regards to Milan. Do you think that Berlusconi has any input to the final decisions. Juve are going to find it extremely difficult to get out of that division in one season. I always have believed that since the story came to light that Milan were going to be more equally treated than the other clubs. If their is enough evidence to dock Milan 15 points, I believe they should have been relegated also.

Juve will come straight back up, mark my words.. Unbeaten all season and a few competitors falling by the wayside due to "interesting" refereeing decisions and Robert's your mum's brother.

Are you trying to imply there is some corruption in Italian football? I seem to remember hearing that rumour somewhere before...

i think the only certainty is that they will be out of european football next year as the Italian FA have to hand the list of clubs playing to UEFA in 11 days time.

All the clubs will appeal and it will drag on for ages - i can see the start of the season being delayed till the appeals are heard.

Until then i think clubs will hang on to the top players - shame - Madrid can;t buy the whole of seria A - can they????

Would be some nice players to get in the premiership.

Buffon, Nedved, Canavarno, Ibrahiavic, Veira, Zambrotta, Del piero, etc etc

Well Cannavaro is going to Madrid.

They are also interested in Zambrotta, although they are not so much in need of a RB what with Salgado and Cicinho being there.

Personally I think the sentences are a little harsh, especially on the fans and the players, who were totally innocent of any wrong-doing.

Juve now will probably have to spend 2 seasons in Serie B, thats unless their appeal reduces the punishment, which there is a good chance of happening.

Some think that they will win all their games and come back up, but not if they lose most of their players they won't. If they kept the same side you'd have to fancy them winning their 1st x 10 games and being at 0pts, with the top 3 probably being on, say, 22pts or 23pts. Then they might still make promotion.

It looks like the authorities just had enough and wanted to stop this nonsense ever happening again. Putting Moggi in jail might have been a start!!

But Inter, Roma, Chievo and Palermo being in the CL next season!! Wouldn't put any money on an Italian winner - its lowers the competition for EVERY football fan in europe, not just the fans of the 4 affected clubs.

Sorry SOK, can't agree. If anything the sentences are too leninent, as someone else said. Juve should be dumped into Serie C, fined massively and criminal charges brought against those involved. No doubt though, the idea was set the tariff high knowing full well the clubs involved would appeal and get the sentence reduced. Frankly, they shouldn't.

I would hope, that when one day the match fixing here is finally uncovered we would do the same....... However, going on the fact that last time the tip of the match fixing iceberg emerged, all got away scott free, I have serious doubts.

I really don't care that it 'lowers the standard' in European competitions. Corruption is a cancer thats eating away at a game already in big trouble, and not just in Italy either. Greece, Turkey, and more worrying Germany, have all undergone match fixing scandals recently. In Greece the whole top flight has been accused of being involved.

Fair enough that we need to clamp down on match fixing, but in this case I don't believe any plyaers were involved in throwing games.

From what I read about the situation it was more certain refs being selected to do games after the likes of Moggi requested them.

The only guilty people in this case would be the refs, their association and the top executives of the clubs involved like Moggi. The players, fans and less importantly the sponsors, are the innocent ones in this situation.

Agreed, but the fans enjoyed all the glory, as did the players that was obtained under false pretences. Sadly therefore, you have to take the rough with the smooth. As for the players, no can tell me they never had a clue. When certain games go your way due to outrageous decisions (and some were!) you don't think they thought 'hang on, this is a bit fishy'. In fact they probably did, but didn't care. As such what do they expect when it all comes out?

If the clubs got off (and still yet may) what signal does that send out? In a few years we won't be able to look at any games result without wondering 'what if' with regards fixing?
