Shame for all these people who have shelled out on HD and a new plasma to watch that attrocious shadows all over the pitch - the designer of the floating cuve should be shot ;-{
Very distracting considering most of the footage is long range
(sorry for the hsadowy picture comment earlier - thought I would clarify the point I was making)

i dont know if anyone else has suffered from this, but on 4 or 5 occasions the picture, on my HD box, went off, with the bbc hd logo still present, all within the first quarter hr. the sky+ downstairs didnt do it.

otherwise... fantastic pq and ,so far, scoreline.

I'm watching on freeview, and had a few picture drop outs, did panic for a second, thinking that my PJ bulb had gone.

PQ actually seems quite good for freeview, better than the Jamaica game anyway.

Well, there is 20 mins or so left, and this performance has been well, crap. If people still believe we can win the cup with these performances, they must have been watching a different game to me!

My God.

Someone justify to me now why Jenas or Hargreaves are in the squad over Defoe.

And Owen coming off was "tactical" - he wasn't injured. Words fail me. I take it all back - Sven, who do you think you are kidding?

If Crouch had someone else up there with him it'd be 3-0 - that said, it might have been 3-2..... cold and calculating tactics that make for a less "exciting" game but a win nonetheless.

AV-wise - one expects a little more from the BBC than aforementioned blackouts (around 5 times in first 15 mins, at one point during a free kick) which were broadcaster at fault (fault was on terrestrial analogue, freeview, sky and sky HD....) and stereo audio dropouts (noticed on sky for about 5 mins of first half) - picture otherwise was spot on though (apart from some of the camera shots being really dark, feel for the cameramen I really do!)

The picture definitely did drop 2 or 3 times during the first half hour - I'm watching it on Sky SD and experienced the same problem. Also the crowd sound feed disappeared at one point too! Methinks the beeb were having problems!!

Terrible game in the end though, I think we were lucky that Paraguay didn;t take advantage of the situation as many other sides would have panned us in the second half.

Was it me or was that referee bent? I think on some of the decisions he was busy checking his hair gel...very very dodgy indeed.

well the second half was abismal. i dont who is more to blame, the ref, who is south american and sided with the paraquay most of the time, or SGE, who obviously wants sweden to win the group

That was the most depressing "win" ive seen in ages. I hope to god its not an indication of whats to come, or we dont stand a bloody chance.

Last comment on today from me...won't be hard ( ........ )

Why complain about the hot weather? Every World Cup is played in the summer....and lo and behold it's normally hot! I know, an amazing fact. I'm surprised no one know's at the BBC or the England camp.

Too late for this summer...but hopefully for the next one, someone can tell the England coaches, so they build the fitness levels up. (It's in South Africa. What's beyond divine intervention?)

how much do you think that ref cost Paraguay, just had my new contact lenses through the post, might send them to him, he evidently needs them more than me.

Exactly. I don't suppose any proof were required that it was a bit foolhardy to take 4 strikers (2 inexperienced, 2 < 100%), but here it is.
Bent, Defoe and Johnson probably don't know whether to laugh or cry.

The referee was neutral. Paraguay and Mexico are different countries. I've never heard of a requirement that the referee has to be from a different continent. I think Paraguay would have been happy with a Scottish or German referee.

I dont thinlk accuasations of a lck of neutrality carry nay weoight at all. Those two countries are hundrerds of mile sfrom each other and only have in common a language It would be like saying an Australian ref would show bias to England which is highly unlikely. No he was just pernickety and liked the look of his prance.
anyway less stop whining and rejoice at the result
