Offside rule explained - for girls

...Just in time for the World Cup...

You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have.

The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire.

Both of you have forgotten your purses. It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes.

The shop assistant remains at the till waiting. Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma.

She prepares to throw her purse to you. If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes.

At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and, *whilst it is in flight* you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes.

Always remembering that until the purse had *actually been thrown* it would be plain wrong to push in front of the other shopper.

Hope this helps?!

When my girlfriend sent this to me a few months back this was my reply:

Actually, due to the (stupid) recent changes in the offside rule this is incorrect.

You are now allowed to be forward of the other shopper before the purse has actually been thrown provided you can convince the store manager that you really are not interested in buying some shoes.

So you could casually stroll infront of the other shopper, thus distracting her, whilst your friend throws the purse to another friend who is *not* in front of the other shopper at the time. She then proceeds to nip around the other shopper while she is distracted by you and your friend buys the shoes on your behalf.

You have now successfully learned how to abuse the stupid addendum to the offside law which had functioned perfectly fine, without changes, for decades. grrr.

I take it this still applies if you have a shopper nearest the till on the floor writhing in pain. (This is not a football analogy, go to our local Debenhams on Blue Cross Day)
