Can England win the World Cup?

Simple question really - yes or no?

Saw an article in the Radio Times yesterday by John (Motty) Motson who reckons that Italy will win it...knows a thing or two about football does Motty, but Italy??

When you click your answer in the poll, bear in mind that if England do make it through, Brazil will probably await in the semi final...as the old saying goes, if we are going to win, we will have to beat the best...

My heart says Yes but my head says No. I don't think Sven has the right tactics against the better clubs.

I believe its my patriotic duty to follow our team into the world cup with nothing but blind faith.

Then your exit bender is more justified

Of course they can win the world cup. They have some top world class players in the squad.

The main obstacle will be Sven's barmy formations

We definatly can win the world cup, I don't think we are favourites though, but certainly have the talent to go all the way. will we perform at the right time?, will we have the bit of luck you need? Only time will tell but I'm extreamly excited to find out.

Come on England!

Every chance.

To my mind, only Brazil are outright better. And in a one-off game, anything can happen.

I have my money on at 10-1.

I think if Greece can win the European championship, then England can defiantly win the world cup.
We have a secret weapon.

Can England win the World Cup - yes. They have a team good enough to do it, but as others have said its how they play in that 'big' game on the day.

The last few major championships have shown us that the so-called 'big' teams are not as good as they think they are if you get at them.

But the question on the poll said 'Will they win it', and I voted 'No'.

Did the question change, or did I not read it properly? I could have sworn it was "can". Maybe I was reading the subject and not the question. Anyway, it's too late now.

Can they - yes
Will they - I don't know how to answer that without saying 'we don't know'. Odds are probably about 12-1 against, so obviously we probably won't win it.

In theory, you can win the World Cup. However, you won't!
I'll go for Argentina, who England will probably meet in the quarter finals.

You know, whilst researching for my dreamteam...England have never lost with Crouch in the side. shoulda left Wayne at home and taken a fit Defoe!

What odds will someone give me this stat will remain unchanged come July 10th?

I would now like to revise my statement and say that Sven does not have the right tactics against any opposition, another attempt by him to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory then he has the nerve to try and blame it on the heat. For God's sake Sven even Garth Crooks could see that the 2nd half performance was your fault

I'm beginning to wonder if Sven actually knows anything about football. I suspect he's one of these people who fabricate their CVs and then spend years blagging their way through jobs.

That's the first time I've really seen Linekar come off the fence and sepak his mind. You could also sense that Garth wanted to ask Sven why the hell he substituted Owen like that.
Before this tournament Sven is in print saying that this sqaud is far fitter than any other squad has been, then he tries to blame the heat.
We have the squad to win this tournament, but the manager to lose it.

Another worry is that, sitting next to Sven, making notes and presumably agreeing with everything, is Steve McLaren.

Never a truer word spoken.

I think you lot have a great chance of winning it this year you have a great squad ( of winners) and i also think they have enough grit and determination to succeed despite Sven

I agree ,if you watched the bench macca seemed to be doing all the talking ,sven was inept ,the players always seem to blame something other than the fact they were complete rubbish in the second half .

If the players are that much fitter why are they struggling ,so what if its hot ,too many big name ,big ed players played crap yesterday ,why the english start encamping themselves on there own six yard box is beyond me .

Im furious ,sven ,the players must start taking games by the scruff of the neck ,its no good coming off the pitch and whining about the weather.

Can england win the world cup ,play like that and the first half decent side they play ,and they will be out.
