Martin O'neal

Looks like Martin O'neals' preparing for a return to the fray.
Well publicised talks with Middlesboro' and talks to Sunderland scheduled.
Good luck to him wherever he ends up.
Wish it could be NUFC.

Yeah,

Linked with Sunderland for a while and lately the Boro.

Does he want to lead the Sunderland revival?

Or does he want to usher in Mclaren's babes?

...
What happened with his Wife, has she passed away now?

What won't be too exciting? Rather ungenerous comment - maybe I've picked up your point wrongly?

I'm surprised he is going to another middle of the league type club in the premiership. No offence to Boro fans

If he is ever going to go on and manager a real big English team / be considered a series contender for the England job in the future I really think he needed the Newcastle job to move up a level.

In some ways he is in a no lose situation with Boro. Their realistic expectations are probably going to revolve around being near the top 6 and winning the odd cup.

Eh? He took unfashionable Leicester to three finals, winning two, and finished comfortably each year he was there! If that was his record at Man Utd then I'd agree, but Leicester!

O'neills no mug, if he goes to Boro they'll be a strong, well organised team, that's hard to beat and great in one off games.

Like i said, no change as they are already well organised and great in one off games..

Most of his reputation is based on the SPL, he needs to prove himself to be compared with Ferguson Wenger etc.

As he has been touted for the England job previously his reputation may be over exaggerated somewhat.

Sorry AV2, I still feel his record at Leicester speaks for itself. The club has never had sustained success and he gave that to them. It's far more difficult to be a successful manager at a lower mid ranking side than at one of the big five. They have the money and players for anyone to be successful. Just look at Houllier................

Houllier, yeah you got that right...

I take on board what you say about his Leicester stint and he done a magnificent job, its just that i see him compared to the greats who do it year in year out and he still has to be proved as of yet..

He's unproven at a big club though...will he have what it takes?

(I suppose the UEFA Cup run with Celtic was good - but then if Middleborough can do it... )

I heard they were putting a deadline on his decision. Which is fair enough on the clubs part - I'm sure they don't want to be messed around for ages for someone then to walk off to a 'bigger' club.

Personally I think O'Neill would be good for Boro. Especially with a chairman who seems to have more money than sense.
