No one can deny the huge strides made by Rafa and co this season, you only have to look at the much reduced gap to Chelsea but we are still short of a few players before we can be considered real contenders for the title.
So the question is who would you ideally like to see (realistically..) signed for the start of the season ?
I still wouldn't be completely surprised to see Owen making a return but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

So what do you guys/gals(?) think ?

We need at least one, if not two decent strikers, 2 wingers and a left back

Out: Traore, Cisse, Morientes at least imo

We're already getting Gonzalez and that Argentinian left back...but in all honesty don't know who would be good enough to move us forward and fit in our budget

There's talk of Defoe and SWP...but I'm against Defoe. Lacks that little extra. Might as well keep Cisse! SWP...would Chelski allow him to leave? (talk of Mourinho pulling his transfer to us in Jan) - plus would he have the desire as seemingly money was a factor in sitting on the bench?

We need Owen back. If Arsenal had Owen instead of Henry last night they would have scored at least 3 goals and won the cup.

I for one cant wait to see mark 'speedy' gonazles at lfc (work permit permitting). He is supposed to be a talented winger.

But we have no one at moment who is skillful and take on players. Cisse cant dribble to save his life. We need someone, in the mould of ronaldo at manu, to get past players and make them look silly!

Also talk of Brazilian right back Daniel Alves from Sevilla,
other possibles; David Villa, Wright Phillips, Defoe, Robbie Keane, Gudjonson, Bellamy, Darren Bent, Dirk Kuyt, Fabio Aurellio, Owen

So, we're already getting Palletta, Aurellio and Gonzalez. So that's the CB position and left side sorted then.

We of course need a right winger and striker (s).

Crouch and Robbie will be staying. El Moro is definately leaving. Cisse will almost certainly leave - if not only to raise further transfer money. That leaves us with the need of two strikers.

We have had a bid rejected for Bent...so he's on Rafa's wish list for the striking options.

Kuyt is forever mentioned as well. Surely he will get his move soon. Seems like a player Rafa would like.

Owen remains an option (especially with the alleged 12m buy out clause in his contract) - though, although we would all like him back, Rafa might be put off spending so much of his budget on an injury prone player.

Defoe - always linked. Seems a possibilty. Is the type of striker we will be looking for (as opposed to Crouch), but the jury remains out on him. Maybe if Spurs can clinch Mido, then they will let Defoe go as he will surely be 4th in the pecking order behind Mido, Keane and Berbatov.

Bellamy has a 6m release clause. I hate him, the fans hate him. Though no-one can deny the little hunchback is a good player...would he leave his boyfriend Mark Hughes though? He probably would.

For the RW we seem to be heading towards Guily on a free or Joaquin with Morientes going in exchange.

Luis Garcia could be on his way out with Benyoun being heavily linked after his cup final display.

SWP also linked...but Chelsea would be to bitter to sell.

We have also been linked heavily with the exciting RB Daniel Alves from Sevilla. He's said some nice things about us as well.

That's the way it stands, but who would I like to see? Well, I'll leave that for another post my friends.

I don't know about Guily.

He has another 12 months on his contract but talk was they would just 'let him go' - but I don't really see why. So who knows. I doubt that will happen if I'm honest.

I think he's a good player (at times), and it would be worth having him in the team if only to have him stand next to Peter Crouch.

Sounds like Kromkamp is going already & there's a few right backs being lined up, the other defensive positions & left wing are now covered also.

If their personalities were a little better I'd happily see Bellamy & Pennant come, thought Pennant had an excellent season for a relegated side.

I don't see LFC splashing too much big cash around except for 1 big name striker & I think Rafa wants to stay in the boundaries of the Prem or English so I expect Defoe to sign......Not sure it's the best choice but he's young, English, Premiership proven to a certain extent, won't need any settling-in time & is a 1000 times better than Cissé.

He'll then buy another cheaper striker as Morientes replacement & a right sided midfielder, although i don't believe it'll be anyone expensive.

Really don't think Darren Bent would be a success at LFC so leave well alone please...

Mido is a good as gone now. Roma want him back or us to pay 6 million, which w won't do. Our forwards next year will Berbatov and Keane as first choice, the Defoe and Barnard as back-up. If we do sign another soon (which I think we will) Defoe will go.

For Liverpool to be viewed as serious contenders I think they need a couple of strikers. I view Crouch as someone who you can bring on with 20 minutes to go to stir things up a little.

Agree John - we need proven goal scorers and we just haven't got any at the moment. Morientes hasn't done it for us despite looking good before he arrived, Cisse's few good moments are far outweighed by the bad ones, Crouch is skillfull but not a high goal scorer by the looks of it and whilst I'm glad Fowler's staying I'm not sure he's going to be as good as he was before and besides we can't rely on just him!!!!

Would have Van N but not for 15m which was the last price I heard. Agree that Bellamy is good but don't like him and not sure how he would fit in. Defoe and Bent ok for the money.

As for the others I notice a quote from Alves to the Liverpool Echo (according to reports on the net) that he's definitely tempted and has a decision to make as to whether to go or not. Would have SWP as well and think Chelski would let him go just not sure at what price. Ian Wright heavily hinted that he was going or possibly going somewhere when he was speaking in the FA Cup build up. Whilst the money might have tempted him to Chelski he wants to play football not sit on the bench.

rumour has it that Defoe has just about signed for us. £9m was the fee quoted. Don't think Kewell is going in part exchange.

Other rumours include Pennant on a 2 year deal for between £2-£5m. Contract will be extended depending on behaviour. Alves wants to come to us (£7m), but there could be a stumbling block in that apparently Barca have first choice on him. Fee for Giuly is £3m.

Adam Pepper is another rumour. Know nothing about him, other than he's 14 or 16 and trained with Everton.
