Liverpool vs Man Utd

What can i say, not only did we lose we have also lost smithy for what looks like 9 months.
I knew that no liverpool player was going to get carded before a utd one.
Just a shame that liverpool wanted it, and utd didn't.
Also i thin kthe F.A. need to make ball boys and stewards at the side of the picth a rule.
Liverpool fans showed today why Garry Neville deserved to celebrate the way he did.

Thought the ref was excellent today, I think he was right to let the Kewell one go early on.
I don't think there was a conspiracy
At least with Smith out for that length it may force Sir Alex to buy a real midfieder

What a lacklustre display from us...Utd that is. Giggsy is not a central midfielder and was chasing his tail all game, he is not strong enough in that position. Fair enough when he's skipping down the left wing, but battling in the centre with Gerrard, no way. Furthermore, Fletcher underlined the reason why he should not be in the squad...weak, cannot pass, negative, and no vision. The scousers bossed us in midfield and I cannot believe that Bambi (Crouch) scored. Neville, unlike him, looked very shaky and a bit perturbed from the outset; Brown had a dire game, and Vidic has yet to show any class.

Smith should have played from the outset...its an FA cup match against Liverpool, and it was always going to need someone who doesn't mind putting their foot in...so Sir Alex plays Fletcher,Giggs, Richardson in midfield !. Smith would have risen to it from the first minute. Instead, he's brought on as a sub after 75 mins and then we end up losing him for a year with a broken leg.....magic.

Message to Wolves, can we swap Fletcher for Ince please for the rest of the season??? I would rather have a mid-30s Wolves player than the waste of time that is Fletcher.

Not happy but Liverpool deserved the win

The truth is Smith shoud not be playing in midfield for a Manchester United team.
A team of this stature should have much better quality in the centre and I cant believe it wasnt sorted out to a degree in the Jan window. Flecther is a useful squad player but not good enough for a regular starter, Smith has done well but is not a midfielder, from what I have seen of Park I dont think hes good enough wheather it wide or in the middle. All this leaves one of the worlds top clubs with Scholes as quality in the middle and lets face it, he has not been performing the same as years gone by before injury.
Up until Man U sign at least 2 international quality CENTRE midfielders they will win nothing outside of the league cup.

How Dumb are the commentator's? Clearly visible in the three angles they used, you could see Smiths left leg twist under his body but motson and pretend Irishman "lawro", kept going on about his right leg being hit by the ball

Only a minor point i know, but "it did my head in" as a Chav would say

Noticed also that whenever Sniville was near the sideline,Plod would appear and stand right in front of the people in the front seats, blocking their view and winding them up, causing more hassle than if they did nothing

Liverpool fans showed today why Garry Neville deserved to celebrate the way he did.
A couple of things:
That injury was awful. I hate it when they show things like that over and over. The same happened with Cisse, and as has been pointed out, the commentators were clueless. My only thought is that they must have really tiny monitors, because only a fool couldn't see what happened in both incidents, yet they showed both of them over and over again, and none of the commentators had a clue.

I really feel bad for Smithy, he's alright, a bit mental but he's got a great heart and I never want to see a player seriously injured. I know he won't be well soon, that sort of thing takes time, but I truly hope we see him back on a pitch, because that looked terrible.

As for the fans showing why Gary Neville deserved to celebrate the way he did, I disagree. Apart from one total spanner throwing a burger or whatever it was, the fans were pretty good, and I remember looking at them and every single one of them in camera shot had a smile on their face and was giving him loads of stick, but none of them had that snarling hatred I've so often seen at other clubs when an opposition player gets near them. I'll agree that nothing should have been thrown, but the rest of the time they were good natured in their mickey-taking and they could have made things a great deal worse.
And they clapped Smithy off, which I think was class, but that's only because the last time I witnessed similar was when the Blackburn fans booed Cisse off.

Completely agree, Lawrenson was annoying me all match with his "Aren't Liverpool great....Gerrard is the best player in the world.....Utd are terrible.....Liverpool are great..." comments; and also his mistakes in reading situations; even his explanation of Smith's injury was a backhanded compliment to Liverpool - "Ooooh, the power of Riise's shot...that's what did it". Typical of the BBC/Liverpool bias....is it any wonder Sir Alex refuses to do interviews for them. Give me Andy Gray on Sky anyday.

Tense cup tie, good result, leaving City in the clear as favourites ......

Can only add my own comments to those aimed at the commentators. Ridiculous. Is it me or are the BBC commentators all wacked? During the Newcastle / Southampton game similar comments were made about great skill by Dyer when he miscontrolled it and evaded a tackle. Crap. Say what you like about Sky but their football coverage kicks the BBC's up the arsenal.

As for the injury, a shocker, get well soon Alan Smith. He looked in very good hands medically - how quick was he looked after? - and lets hope their quick response helps his long term recovery.

Hmmm. F365 is reporting that some people booed him off.
"Sadly in such ferocious contests, some fans do not always see the bigger picture and a few Liverpool fans booed as the England international was carried away.

Fortunately, a vast majority of the Kop and the rest of the stadium applauded Smith man and the concern shown by Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and John Arne Riise underlined the genuine concern of the Anfield camp."

I never heard or saw that, I only saw the crowd clapping him off, but if some of them did boo him off, I distance myself from them and don't consider them to be good fans. They shouldn't have done that, and that makes me mad.

LOL! Remember the comment when they say "Gerrard could be the best player anywhere, even left back". I know he's good, but thats a bit OTT from the commentators, and it wasnt Gerrards best game today was well.

The 1-0 at the Thearter of Schemes a few weeks ago, I went in an exec box as a guest of a company who pay 35k a year for the box...they made my 9 year old Son take off his Liverpool shirt on the way in. We had a four course silver service meal and he had to eat with his coat on, they said he might insite trouble if anyone looked in the box "Paranoid gobsh*tes" and then they make excuses for Nanny Grevile. The sooner they become the Manchester Bucceneers and Buck-Off the better for all. One more season with sod all to show for it should see the receivers at the door, rubs hands in a gleefull fashion!

Sorry about Smithy though, the lads got a great heart and no one deserves that to happen to them.

i think the reason he doesn't give interviews to the bbc is from a panarama documentary on dodgy dealings and his son was involved. i think all managers should be forced to give interviews, it annoys me when the don't.

i just hope that other players take a look at smithy and take a leaf out of his book, i'm sure he was asking the ref to help pick himself up.
Most players these days just need a little tap and they are rolling around like they have been shot.

liverpool were the better side for sure.
but burgers thrown and ball hogging , i think a touch of nerves will do that to any sides supporters playing utd as they can just hit back immediately.
lately though cylinder 3 is not firing
btw:im not a utd supporter

Does anybody happen to know if smiths break was a compound fracture ? It looked bad but hopefully its not a David Buust(sp) type injury.

agreed, the dives ronaldo and horsehead take are unbelievable most the time
i like smiths approach to the game,he may not be the best in any position he is put in but you know what you will get off him and thats why i like rooney aswell but the benefit of rooney is he`s also an exceptional player.

on a lighter note i think the mobile must have been 10 years old that got thrown at fathead and the burger that got thrown was then thought over by 20 scousers in mid flight and was caught before it hit the ground

Good point about the managers being interviewed after the game. Watched Motd last week and saw Middlesbrough beat Chelsea 3-0. After the game, "nobody from Chelsea wanted to be interviewed". What a very poor show. Chelsea are turning into very poor winners and even poorer losers.

The actual reason is beacause of the Man Utd Arsenal incident, where man Utd won 2-0 at OT, 2 years ago. About what happened at half time, the mushy pies incident, and BBC blamed Fergie orr something, cant remember exactly.

Did anyone give an interview when you were dumped out of the champs league, I don't think so.
There are numerous examples of Fergie not even shaking hands at the end of games they've been beaten in, so I don't think Man U fans can talk about Chelsea being poor winners/losers.
