Vote for Sven's replacement

So who do you think should replace Sven?

Me? I couldn't care less about his nationality, I just want the best man for the job - and in my opinion that's Peter Taylor.

O'Neill all the way...

Have you seen Hull City this season? Don't think he'd compliment the England senior team's style of play.

Big sam for me - has the passion for the game and likes to play attacking football that i think england should be playing with the players they have.

Big Sam is a long-ball merchant though. Hardly a style of football that suits our players.

Also, to the previous poster, O'Neill is one of the most animated managers in the game!

Biggest load of nonsense I have heard. I have to believe people who come up with this just dont see Bolton play.
For the players he has there, they play good football, more direct than Arsenal say but England are at there best playing Direct football, Direct doesnt mean long it means quick attacking football, getting the ball to those who can make the most use of it. If that happens to be a long ball for that situation so be it.
Allardyce has great Man Managent ability and if he canget the best out of the likes of payer at Bolton, then I would like to see him get the best out off these much more talented England players.
Sam would be my first choice, though O'Neill and Hiddink would be very good choices too.

Quality post. The people who subscribe to the long ball theory seem to get their opinions from the TV & Press. You can't finish as high in the Prem as Bolton did (and currently are) by just hoofing it to a big man. They are also still in the UEFA Cup. Ask Arsenal fans if they like watching all that pretty football with no end product, you can sometimes feel the Highbury fans willing the players to shooooooooot!

Big Sam is one of the best tacticians around and knows how to play to his strengths and attack the oppositions weaknesses - his success is there for all to see. Plus he's English which should be the way to go this time, surely?

Trying to leave aside my nationalistic wish for a British manager, I'd say Hiddinck has ALL the credentials.

Incidentally, Big Ron Greenwood has passed on

Two of the best tactically astute motivators of men are Steve Coppell and Iain Dowie both of whom have worked such wonders moulding successful teams out of less talented players that one wonders what they could do with some real talent.

i was going to go for hiddinck, but i think scolari has the edge slightly when it comes to making a team play exciting football, and i think after sven's reign, what we need is some exciting football!

Agreed. They drive me nuts when they do the 'over elaboration' routine. It's great to watch but sometimes........... On big Sam. I agree, a lot of the 'long ball' crap is 'Skytalk'. The media (and establishment) don't like smaller teams that have the temerity to challenge the 'big guns' and hence use any excuse to do them down. The football establishments public enemy no3, Wimbledon, took a lot of flak as 'long ball merchants', and still do from people who never even saw them. They had much more in the kitty than that, as do Bolton. However, I'm not sure Big Sam could cope with the FA (who can?). He's used to a tight, but sympathetic board, that let's him get on with it. He will NEVER get that with the FA. England managers, bar Venables and Ramsey, have too often picked teams that have the medias favourites, from their favourite clubs, rather than 'form players' in them.

O'neill is more pliable, but still gets his way in the end. He also, like Robson, took an unfashionable team and won things - consistently. He also stands no ***t from the players. Plus he can't stand the media. All positives in my book........

If we go for a foreigner Scolaris the best bet. However, neither he nor Hiddinck bowl me over.

I like the idea of a co-coaching team and would like to see O'Neill with Pearce as his wingman while still a club manager for 6-8 years then Pearce taking over.

As a Crystal Palace fan I'd like to see Steve Bruce as England manager so that he can be vilified by the whole country instead of just the faithful few.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I can go with that!

I've always secretly wanted a Don Howe, George Graham partnership at Arsenal. They would win everything in sight! Only problem would be:-

Home w19 d0 L0 gf19 GA0 Away W9 D10 L0 Gf9 Ga0. Success 100% entertainment -100%

I would love even more for them to manage England. Never would the 'winning is everything' crowd get their bluff called as throughly as watching England sweep the board, but bore to death the World of football by those two!

You surprize me somewhat - as an Arsenal fan I would've thought he'd be the last on your list after having to watch the last 4 encounters with Bolton. Saying that - he has frustrated a far superior team & beaten them on a couple of occassions. However, put that man with some of the best players on the planet & make them outplay (not just frustrate & nick) the likes of Germany, Brazil, Italy, France - he's a million miles away from being an England Manager in my eyes & I'm pretty sure the panel of selectors have the same opinion. If Sam is good enough then so is Curbs, Redknapp, Taylor & the rest of the "does well with what he's got" gang. Keegan & Hoddle showed it's a massive step up (although Hoddle with his gob shut would've probably done 6 years there).

. I'd rather see Taylor in the job if we have to go English (geeeeez - Phil Thompson could do as well as them, he took Liverpool to 2nd & 80 odd points which would've won the league whilst GH was having his heart resprayed) but I see no further than O'Neill or Hiddink. My head says Hiddink, my heart says O'Neill for his great footballing management/punditry....I go O'Neill for the sake of this thread...

Just because someone beats, or gives our lot a tough game, doesn't automaticaly mean I dislike them. I'm not a Liverpool fan. Outplay someone from the top five? England? Blimey! How old are you? I can't remember England 'outplaying' an on form, top rank side since the 70's. Beating them yes, doing one over when fielding a crap team (Brazil 84' Germany 2002) yes, but outplaying? Not in recent history, no. Sam would be no worse than Taylor (what's he actually done?) and certainly better than McLaren or some of the other halfwits the FA are 'considering'.

I would agree though, for me it's O'neill or Hiddink.
