Sol Campbell problem - the real story ?

So apparantly the sunday rags have the low-down on the personal problems with Sol Campbell - speculate all you will but I'm sticking to my original thoughts which come from way back when Sol was at Spurs - not saying anything now as I would never want to be one to spread rumours etc ...

EDIT: looks like my brain was mushing stuff together again with the title - should be Sol Campblem problem - the real story, but then again Im guessing you saw that

EDIT: GOD I DID IT AGAIN ! I give up ...

But you're quite happy to start a thread on an internet forum which will act as an invitation for others to speculate.

Could it be that after "spilling the beans" on Owen's feelings about Newcastle, Rooney's up-bringing and Ferdinand's laziness, Sven's inability to keep his over-paid gob shut has struck again?

I don't think so this time as I think that he has been caught applying to be the leader of the Liberal Democrats.

I was thinking about this and speculate that he is gay and having trouble coming to terms with it along with coming out. Having read alleged kiss and tell stories on him in the past I think it may be this.

Good luck to him in whatever the issue is as seems a decent chap and evidently nothing like Rio Ferdinand.

Pete.

This was one of the topics in work this morning; the rumor is that there will be stuff in a Sunday paper about Sol. Another player was mention but don’t really want to go into that.

Agree with the Captain, good luck to him, also in my opinion he has always played well for England, and if he is off the right frame of mind and playing well wouldn’t mind him going to the world cup, maybe incase Terry gets injured.

Well that’s my two pence worth

Cheers Holo

I cannot understand this. It happens every time a spurs player moves across North London. Campbell gave a decade of his best years to Spurs, and decided to move on as Spurs were going nowhere. Yet, all he gets is some pretty offensive abuse. Likewise Pat Jennings, for me the best goalkeeper I've seen, was sent death threats when he went across to us after 12 years at Spurs! Yet on the rare occasions it goes the other way, the players don't get nearly so much stick (or as in Allens case, none) as they do from Spurs fans.

I can maybe understand when a clubs only real star, as in Rooneys case, early in their career goes chasing the money, but when a players given a club the best part of his career it turns my guts when they get abused by their old 'supporters'.

All it does is the fans look bad.

side splitting

Oh and please stop defending Ferdinand. The fact that you have a season ticket at 'the theatre of dreams' has clouded you. I apologies for my thug like comments earlier in the week - however I stand by the fact the he represents everything that is wrong with the modern game

OK, he may have left Spurs to join Arsenal, but this is still a person like me and you we are talking about - surely you can't wish that kind of hatred on another person ?

Shame as Campbell seems to be an articulate, decent pro who wants to better himself off the pitch. I wish him luck.

Obviously there is going to be an initial backlash when a player leaves any club for their rivals, like in the case of Jennings.
The real problem Spurs fans have with the Campbell move were the lies leading up to it. He insisted he was going to sign a new contract, leading us to turn turn down big money with a year to go on the contract (Ł15M from Man U) and kept on holding off until he then leaves...For Arsenal
At the time he was the countries No 1 defender and the truth was Spurs were going nowhere at the time, If he had come out and said I have to leave now to make the most of my career and let us get a fee for him, even if it was Arsenal, it would not be so bad.
I personally do not have the time or inclination to call Sol "This or That", he served us great for 10 years and whatever anyone says that doesnt get wiped out by one stupid decision. Being a huge England fanm I know the national team is better off with Sol in the squad (If sorted out) and I hope he goes to the world cup. I am not gona slate him for the season and then get behind him in June if selected, just ridiculously hypocritical.

(P.S I WILL BOO HIM WHEN SPURS PLAY ARSENAL - THATS ALLOWED )

Come off it Overkill, what did you expect?

Of course Campbell is gonna get stick from Spurs fans. I've booed him every time I've seen Spurs play Arsenal, and will continue to do so.

As KevD points out, it's less to do with the fact that he joined the Arse, but more to do with his comments the season prior to the switch when he tried to portray himself as "one of the fans', with comments along the lines of "I'll never play for that lot" when asked about a possible switch to Highbury.

And don't forget, this particular door swings both ways. I was at White Hart Lane the day the Arsenal fans started throwing around an inflatable doll - an insult aimed at David Pleat, after the tabloids revealed that he'd being caught curb crawling some years earlier when manager of Luton.

Don't get me wrong, it was bloody funny at the time - and more than a few of us had to try hard not to laugh along.

A bit of stick is all fine and dandy - sure it can go too far (like many, I'm sickened by chants re Hillsborough, Munich and the like) - I just wish us fans would put a little bit more effort and imagination into it.

I mean, I'd welcome the day any set of fans in The Premiership can match those wags up at Kilmarnock and their "Two Andy Gorams, there's only Two Andy Gorams" chant to Ranger fans, after their 'keeper was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia.

Now that's just class sledging!

That's one of the things that crossed my mind also. It did seem during the week an unusual amount of hype, even for the NOTW, for it to be something so mundane.

Couldn't of put it better myself, but wasn't going to bite @ Overkill.
The rubber doll was funny though. If i remember right it all came out in the paper on the monday and we played the scum @ WHL on the wednesday.Poor old pleat got hammered by a packed park lane full of gooners.
