Svend of the World?

I haven't read it yet (just saw the paper review on Sky) but it looks like the News of the World has a pretty sensational story on Sven... looks like they duped him with another fake shake! Apparently he has admitted that he will leave the England job after the World Cup. Anyone read the story yet, got any more details?

I just heard a bit on the News about it but they didn't give much detail. I hope this doesn't mean that Steve McClaren will be the next mistake by the FA

Just the usual reponse from the sweet FA. "We have complete faith in Sven blah, blah, blah..........." Shame Sven doesn't seem to have the same faith in his players. What a that Swedish numbwit is.

You're right though John, it could be worse, they might bring in Mclaren!

They set up a meeting with Sven pretending to be wealthy Sheiks.
Sven was trying to convince them to buy Aston Villa and give him the managers job straight after the world cup for £5m per year after tax.

He told them he would buy Beckham for villa and that they would sell more villa shirts in a day when beckham signs than what they have sold over the last 10 years.

They have loads of pictures of him taken with undercover cameras
They have stitched him like a kipper.

So Sven's in it for the money. We all knew that.

But he's so confident he could persuade Beckham to Villa? Gots to give him credit for that

I wonder how many trees have been felled to print all this tripe? The fact that it was a stitch up means the story shpuld be treated with the contempt it deserves . Just fodder for a media that must always have a story. The FA are not going to sack Erikson and while what he said might have been injudicious its nothing tyhat people didnt know already
as for who succeds Erikson after the WC ? For me if he has to be English then Peter Taylor will do, otherwise Fabio Capello , Arigo Sacchi or Hitzfield

I say this before every major tournament, but here goes !
Why must our press try and stir things up with the England team / management before every tournament we go to ? They do it every single time

I have saw the video footage of the undercover interview and I must admit that I dont think that sort of nonsense should be allowed. Filming someone in secret regarding personal business and then showing it all over without consent.

Although Sven was stupid for saying what he did there was no need for that.

We get the papers that we deserve

I've just had a read of the item linked to above and was amused at the gross hypocrisy of the newspaper.

Quote:
While Sven has not technically broken the rules because Aston Villa has not been bought, his actions are a clear breach of the spirit of the laws.
I don't suppose that News of The World has broken any laws either but they have clearly breached the spirit of journalism. Entrapment may be legitimate in cases of national security or to catch serious lawbreakers but to use techniques like that to try and get a football manager to be indiscreet is gutter journalism at it's worst

Exclamation News of the Blah!

I agree totally with IJ, News of the World is scum. The purpose of a news paper is to "report" news not create it for their own ends. This scam has been perpetrated a number of times - and what does it prove? - the NOTW are very adept and will go to extraordinary lengths to Bag a victim and probably it's a case of there but for the grace of God... Who’s to say in the same situation we wouldn't be taken in? As far as NOTW are concerned cheap stunt, cheap paper, shouldn't talk about it anymore but I'm outraged. Get behind the boys and the team - don't make them win the WC despite your pathetic scam

Yep, I agree with you guys. When I first heard about the story they made it seem as if something sensational had happened, but when you read the details there is just nothing there.
The only story here is how pathetic the tabloids in this country really are. This story is no different to the garbage reality tv hidden camera Jeremy Beadle type shows, except in print form. Pathetic

Cometh the World Cup, the News of The World will be right behind the team!

I hear that sales of NOTW are up by 50% in Scotland

It has come out today that players he spoke about are "OK" with Sven...although I do agree with some of the comments (SWP).

After the World Cup, au revoir Sven, bonjour Monsieur Pearce

The Daily Mail came out with its usual sanctimonious claptrap using words like greed and betrayal. Geoff Powel dug his claws in but then he never did like Erikson or the fact he is a foreigner in charge of the England football team.

Must get new glasses...thought that read Sir Alex Ferguson

As for Pearce, I saw him celebrating with the fans after Fowler's 3rd goal in 3-1 win over Utd. Thats enough for me

Surely it's not Pearce's time yet. Unproven in European matches and without a full season in management behind him (can't remember how long he managed Forest for, so sorry if I'm wrong). I can feel the euthusiasm but it's got to be tempered with consistent results.

Now replace McClaren with Pearce as Sven's asistant - that might work.

Lex, you aint wrong. But the English press have always been that way. They manipulate the facts and create stories to suit their political/editorial ends. 'They' don't like Ericcson because he's a 'johnny foreigner' not because he's a boring manager. Which is why I can't stand him.............

However, even though once again the press show how low they can stoop, had Ericsson not actually said anything contraversial they'd have no story to print now would they?

Psycho psycho psycho !
I've been fortunate enough to watch his entire career at Forest and spoke to him at a charity event when getting his autograph. He'll always be a hero to me ...... unless he joins Derby County
