Anybody hate Robbie Savage as much as me?

Just sitting here watching the Blackburn v Utd game and every time I look up from my laptop I see Robbie Savage moaning at the referee - makes me wanna throw things at the telly!!
He put Wayne Rooney in a headlock earlier then complained at the referee when he got booked for it, asking "What's that for ref?!"
He is kind of like a male version of Jodie Marsh - just irritates you every time you look at him!

The only person I dislike more than him is Craig Bellamy... so as you can probably tell I am not a Blackburn fan!

The thing is, his antics cloud the fact he IS a good footballer
If he were in your side, you would love the way he winds the oppo up!
Oh yeah, just pictured him with that stupid haircut.. Yes I do hate him

If he were on my side I would be Welsh or from Blackburn - Robbie Savage would be the least of my worries!

Although a little annoying, you can't deny he's been invaluable everywhere his been (apart from Man U when they released him).. Probably the best athlete in the premiership & earns every penny of his salary for his effort.

Which makes a nice change in this day & age of overpaid, overhyped players. He's no naughtier than the next midfield engine, you just notice it more cos he's a knob...

Robbie Savage does a great job in winding up the opposition.....hence the fact that the "Robbie Savage Wannabee" Alan Smith committed a tackle last night which justified a jail term never mind a red card.

The refusal to lose makes an average player a good player (Robbie Savage) just as it makes a good player a great player (Roy Keane, Pat Viera)

Robbie Savage has to be my favorite 'other' player. Plays with passion and does.... as it has been pointed out.... refuse to lose. The Premiership always needs a player like this. He raised the passions of both sets of fans, and without this type of player the Premiership would be even more of an overpriced, overhyped waste of money.

Total pansy pretty boy!! imho.

Not a fan of him at all - goes down faster than the titanic! Most of the time, no one actually is within 5 yards of him.

If running about the pitch like a headless chicken counts as "top athlete" then i must be a superb player!!!

Does nothing in a game, can't pass, certainly can score (how did he not score in 22 seconds last night, harder to miss!), only there to wind up the opponents and get himself booked in just about every game (currently has 9 yellow cards this season, 2 best/worst in the premiership)

"Refusing to lose" is a great attitude as long as it is not refusing to lose... at any cost. What winds me up about Savage is that he is constantly whining to the referee - if he makes a bad tackle he whines when he gets a yellow card, but then if somebody makes a bad tackle on him he is whining to the referee, or rolling around on the floor, trying to get the opposition player a booking. He is a hypocrite. A winning attitude is good, as long as it is within the spirit of the game. I think it is players like Robbie Savage which give football a bad name equally as much as the "over-paid, over-hyped" brigade...

Not quite sure he gives football a bad name, OK, he whines but show me a player that doesn't? - Let's look at the facts - He has never been red carded in 423 Club appearances...

Robbie Savage: Overall career totals
Apps Goals Yellow Red
Total (Club) 423 31 84 0
League 359 28 74 0
FA Cup 27 1 6 0
League Cup 28 1 4 0
European 9 1 0 0

Now compare that to a little git like Alan Smith & who really gives football a bad name?

Alan Smith: Overall career totals
Apps Goals Yellow Red
Total (Club) 296 67 72 8
League 221 45 50 6
FA Cup 18 4 4 1
League Cup 9 1 5 0
European 48 17 13 1

Still Robbie Savage gives football a bad name. You figures do not show that amount of playacting, rolling around on the floor, moan/whining to refs etc.

Also out of the 2 players mentioned who is the more likely one to get tackled and just get up and get on with the game without whining about it?

Also lets bear in mind that Alan Smith is a forward that is being converted into a midfielder, he has about 30 games to get used to a new position on the park.

Who would you rather have in your midfield as the combatative (sp) tackling, full blooded proffesional midefield footballer????

Sigh...Robbie Savage a good player?

In 20 years Savage will go down in history as a journeyman who for some reason unbeknown to me played in the Premiership

British football history is littered with journeymen who by sheer hard work an inability to annoy the hell out of others or act like complete thugs are able to make the top. Sadly!Wimbledon was full of them

That has got to be the biggest load of twaddle I've ever read. Robbie Savage is the very personification of the overpriced and overhyped Premiership. Previous threads have already stated the practices of this so called footballer, the rolling over & feigning injury and sometimes blatant attempts to get fellow pros sent off. His constant whining to the referee is frankly embarrassing.

The quote above supports Savage and his refusal to lose..... he plays for Blackburn and Wales!! (Oh sorry, he has retired from international football after 'falling out with the manager' only to go back on it and be turned down) Refusal to lose? Hasn't worked so far, eh?

Look at his other notable club highlights : erm, rejected from United, then on to Crewe, Leicester, Birmingham .... player the Premiership can do without? Give me a break. The top quality players in the Premiership from years gone by have respect for each other but not for someone like Savage. Did Keane ever roll around on the floor or dive to the ground if someone flicked his hair.... nope didn't think so.

The best players of the modern era are always judged in the same way, surely, success on the pitch. Savage has won sweet FA. His argument with Graeme Souness when he had the temerity to verbally abuse the Newcastle manager was perfectly put down by the Scot, when he said, "What've you won Sav? I picked up the European Cup, what about you?"

Unfortunately, Savage will look back on his career from his mansion, four cars, millions in the bank etc and think he was a success. This is the real shame that football can reward someone with limited ability so greatly and for people to justify his behaviour by saying he tries hard just does not cut the ice for me.

I'd like to quote this to emphasise this

salfordred, who do you support, Man U? Very puzzled by your praise of Savage. Roy Keane has twice the passion and work rate of Savage now (even tho he's past it some say) and has a medals to boot

You mean with his play acting, shoddy badly-timed tackling? His diving, feigning of injury or bad behaviour?

More suited to rugby - except even in that sport they don't accept bully-boy wannabe average players. He wouldn't even play - he'd be sinbined or sent off and made to know it by all levels of the game with his sort of behaviour

Yep, I remember that now

I also remember him having a major run-in with George Burley when he (Burley) was Ipswich manager.... I think Savage took a dive in the penalty box ang got an ipswich plaery sent off and a penalty. Burley was screaming at him calling him a cheat from the touchline.

The thing that winds me up most about Savage is the way he grabs his face every time something happens trying to make out someone has either hit him or butted him or something........ please give me the chance to oblige

Perfectly Put - hear hear - well said - was just about the say the same
