Lakeside World Championship - Jelle Klaasen

Although I'm nowadays more a fan of the PDC tournament, I always watch both...

Have you seen this 21 year old dutch fella Jelle Klaasen? Not only does he not look anything like a stereotypical darts pro, but he's a great talent.

A huge trebles hitter, just needs to better his finishing/doubles & he'll be massive. However, his huge hitting is at the moment enough to knock out a couple of big guns already including top seed Mervyn King in the second round last night..

Just watching him now...looks good!

Big test will be how he gets on against Barnevald and when the pressure is on.

Went to lakeside last night and saw the two quater finals.
That boy has some talent, the way h was checking out was staggering at times, although he did stutter part of the way through and let Hogan back in.

One of the best players there last night was Trina Gulliver "The golden girl" . She was better than most of the men players that i'd seen lately.
She managed to get more 180's in two sets than Hogan and Greatbatch got between them. Boy can she play

I must admit to switching on the interactive last night, saw there was some womans game about to commence and then quickly switched over.

Tell me are the woman as athletic as the men darts players or is there some eye candy??

Was that not one of the best finals you've ever seen??? & people say darts is crap - it's the most exciting sport out there this time of year.

Darts for the Olympics i say, they let in crap like shooting so what's the difference...?

After looking at the averages & 180's hit in the tournament I'm starting to think the PDC has about 4 top players & the rest are here..King, Barney & co would beat everyone bar Phil Taylor in the PDC...

Please...looking at the averages...just about 90...whereas the power is in round about 130's...

I'd be interested in klaasen vs The Power, but the BDO is so poor

I was surprised though that Barney missed sooo many doubles. I think he couldn't take the pressure

130's are you sure???

I would imagine just over 100..110 max.

Edit
The highest ever match average is 112 supposedly.

Sorry, a little overzealous

Somehow reading 100's became 130's

I heard you need averages of 107-110 to beat The Power

Of course Barney defecting would be interesting

I think they had an exhibition match a year or so ago....Power won, I believe quite easily.

Yeah I know

Wonder why the BDO were reluctant to allow Barney to participate?

I still agree with one of the other posts though.

Phil Taylor is a bit of a one off really with Barney probably the best of the rest in either code.

Taylor's the only only PDC player that would beat the top 3/4 of the WDC, the others: Mardle, Manley, Lloyd, Painter, Part would struggle as they do against Taylor.

The average through the PDC tournament is between 89-92 & not until Taylor turns it on & latter stages do you start to see 96-98, even Taylor rarely goes over 100 until the last few rounds because his game is all about staying power - put him in best of 3 & anyone has a chance against him.

The same with 180s - PDC you'd see about 16-18 in 7 sets, you see 20+ in 5 sets during this years WDC...

PDC has the bigger names, the bigger money, the bigger SKY glitz but the WDC is coming back & can hold it's own in the sense of the players. Take Taylor out of the equation & the PDC looks very different - the geezer's one of the greatest sportsmen of all time...

I seriously can't see why it's not an Olympic Sport when the others are - I hope it is by 2012!!

why do you include archery in that list? You've obviously never tried holding a 40lb bow steady at full draw, trying to hit an 18cm target over 230 feet away from you - it may look easy but I can assure you it ain't!

I have tried archery & my point wasn't how difficult it is, it's very difficult - it's how much of a sport it is in the athletic sense....A 9 dart finish is as difficult & requires the same level of skill....
