The Rugby Bores Are Squealing

Really, we already know you don't like football and much prefer the stop start tedium of rugby along with the assumed right of being able to look down your nose at all football fans.

Why not just bore off and do what football fans do when the rugby is on and...watch something else? Really Mr Rugby Bore, you just make yourself look like a ****.

Rant over.

Not sure I get this rant Dave. I played Rugby for years but can't stand watching it unless it's an international or a needle match. I much prefer watching football and I know loads of other Rugby lads that are exactly the same. Rugby can be insanely boring to watch and most honest Rugby players appreciate there is a lot more skill involved with football.

It's more to do with facebook. I have loads of Friends constantly banging on about football is for idiots blah blah and it reached it's peak today.

It boils down to simple snobbery in most cases and drives me insane. Really, if it bothers you that much why post about it on facebook?

I love the way journos say "it would never happen on rugby" or "why not deal with it how they do in rugby" over a bit of handbags in the football yet on the (admittedly rare) occasions I see it on sky sports news it's usually over a spear tackle or eye gauge etc

I've nothing against the sport and the rest of my family love the game, I just get fed up with the moral high ground that seems to be associated with it.

there is still unfortunately a rather large amount of snobbery associated with rugby fans who look down on their noses not only at footie but rugby league as well. Not so with the players, mind, as they enjoy watching footie and an increasing number come from working class backgrounds anyway.
On balance I prefer rugby because:
A) the sport, in this country, has not been overrun by foreigners
B) it has not been ruined with too much money
C) fans generally behave much better with no animosity between rivals, in fact are more likely to share a beer .
d) players dont behave like cry babies every time an opponent ruffles their hair
E) players are not overpaid

On the negative side there is still too much intransigence towards change that would make the sport more appealing as in replacing penalty kicks with free kicks which would make it far more fluid. Also the premiership needs to be ringfenced in order to encourage clubs to a play a much more adventurous style without the worry of relegation which induces negativity
Rules also need simplifying as fans are more often than not left bemused as to why a ref blows his whistle
rugby needs new fans but the product must be made more attractive to watch,Unfortunately trying to convince the diehards , ie the ones that deride footie by calling it poof ball or wendyball,is like trying to draw blood out of stone. They seem to have this mortal fear that their beloved sport may one day resemble rugby league

LGS has it summed up pretty well. Football Soccer is a game where all the fans thugs can get together for a punch up in the stands while all the players are falling over on-field playing cry baby.

Apart from watching internationals (Australia Socceroos and sometimes England), I don't really care for Soccer. Rugby Union is fine but the best sport is of-course Rugby League.

RL would be fine if it had contested scrums, lineouts, rucks and mauls to make the game more interestingIts called football by the way, soccer is played either by foreigners or girls
On a more serious note i do think RU can still learn from RL like for example turn a penalty kick to 2 points rather then 3 and have less of them, most being free kicks.Trouble is there is a great deal of resistance(AND SNOBBERY) in this country to the idea OF RU becoming more like RL
