Barnett was still thought of as a top 10 HW by pretty much everybody. Plus Cormier mangled Bigfoot Silva right after Silva had destroyed Fedor. That means he has earned a place near the top of the division, and he's marketable not only for those wins but also as the last SF HW champ.

I do think he's too small to compete as a top level HW for long though. He has a pretty soft physique and is short. With his wrestling background I'm sure he could cut to 205 without too much hassle.

Barnett looked lost in this fight and not the fighter we have seen previously but maybe that's down to DC. DC at 205 would be interesting I agree. Bigfoot silva has never impressed me but agree that was a good win. I'd like to see him fight someone like Cain or werdum next.

He's not likely to fight Cain because I think they're both at AKA. I think the UFC would have a hard time hyping Cormier if he was fasttracked to a title shot because casual fans may not have heard of him. He doesn't look that imposing either. He'd have to have a couple of wins within the UFC for people to take notice.

I think he would beat Werdum btw. He has much better striking and the wrestling pedigree to keep it standing.

It was improved, but I'd still give Cornier the advantage.

He did a lot of damage from the clinch in that fight. Clinching with Cormier might be a bad idea because his TDs are so strong. I know Werdum isn't afraid of being taken down but if he gets dumped on his head after every clinch, he'd be struggling to win rounds. We all know how much the judges like those TDs.

He did seem to have some great take downs but as the barnett fight progressed , they were being stuffed.

The UFC will be hoping for a Hardy win. They are apparently coming to Nottingham in September so they will want the home town boy on the card.

Yeah posted about that a few posts ago, they were a bit harsh on the fine I thought plus the commission as usual had no clue. One question they asked Diaz was does smoking allow you to take more hits in training, seriously?

I think TRT is allowed because it's treatment for a medical condition and although Diaz has a licence for medical marijuana it's not legal in Nevada?

Diaz has a license for it but he still isn't allowed to use it during or immediately prior to competition. The tests suggest that he was using it right up until a few days before. To top it off he did not disclose his medicinal use to the commission when applying for his license.

My picks if anyone wants to challenge me for fun, until the Dr sorts out the comp

Main card
Heavyweight Championship bout: Junior dos Santos vs. Frank Mir
Going to stick my neck out here and go with Mir its more wishful thinking than anything. JDS is a really nice chap and i have nothing against him but he just doesnt have that personality edge which makes me want to see him fight.

Heavyweight bout: Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva
Can only see this going on way

Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman
Never been convinced by Herman so going with Roy who deserves a win

Heavyweight bout: Stipe Miočić vs. Shane del Rosario
Just guessing on this one as cant really remember eithers previous fights

Heavyweight bout: Stefan Struve vs. Lavar Johnson
Tough one to call this but Struve has been known to get caught on a few occasions and KO'd and i can't see this one ending any other way. If Struve gets it to the ground then he may get the Sub.

Preliminary card (FX)
Featherweight bout: Diego Brandao vs. Darren Elkins
Former TUF winner for me

Lightweight bout: Edson Barboza vs. Jamie Varner

Middleweight bout: Jason Miller vs. C.B. Dollaway
Could be close but going for Dollaway

Welterweight bout: Dan Hardy vs. Duane Ludwig
I do hope Hardy has his head in the right place for this one, but i fear this is the end of the road for the outlaw.

Preliminary card (Facebook)
Lightweight bout: Jacob Volkmann vs. Sass

Light Heavyweight bout: Kyle Kingsbury vs. Glover Teixeira

Featherweight bout: Mike Brown vs. Daniel Pineda

Dan Hardy is saying all the right things on Twitter etc but I think if he ever wants to get back to winning he needs to leave Vegas and drive to Albuquerque and then beg Greg Jackson to be his trainer. I'm really hoping for a win for the Outlaw but his lack of wrestling, ground game and punching power is an issue.

Yep, he's sort of rubbish at this.

I like him though mainly for his love of punk.

Hardy can punch, its just that his last few opponents have had his number so not let him swing..... will be interesting to see how this goes...

I will eat my shorts if Mir beats JDS.
Still, stranger things have happened, like that Horse becoming Pope

Any UFC fighter can punch. Even the worst puncher in the UFC will have power. Heck, give me some 4oz gloves and a free shot at Duane Ludwig's chin or temple and I'd be able to rock him (before having my head punched clean off).

Hardy landed against Lytle and it was pretty clear he didn't have enough power to finish him. He didn't have the speed or technique to land on GSP. I can't remember the Rumble fight and obviously Condit took him out pretty quickly.

Hardy has however got a strong TKD background so he should think about utilising that.

Going back a few posts to Strikeforce. Do we know if the UFC will be folding this company for sure?
Personally I’d like Strikeforce to stay, at least as a place where fighters can cut their cloth and get some experience before jumping in to the UFC. I’d also like the Winners of TUF to start in Strikeforce as most of the TUF fighters, since the first few series (probably up to series 5), amount to nothing. I think this is due to the fact that the UFC’s talent pool is so much richer since those early TUF’s.
