Top 3 players of the season + your club's top player

It is approaching the end of the season and I think it is pretty safe to start talking about your players of the season.

1.

Wayne Rooney. He has added more to his game and really is looking the 'complete' striker. He doesn everything, tracking back, holding up, dribbling, good in the box, in the air, pacy and strong. A phenomenal player.

2.

James Milner. He is a footballer. That sounds like a silly thing to say, but what I mean is he doesn't only play in one position, he can and will play anywhere, such is his character. Like Rooney he fights for every ball and has been a revelation for Villa, especially when moved to the centre of the park. Excellent on the ball, legendary vision and is good at picking out the final ball and can score goals.

3.

A tough one, but I have to say Jermain Defoe. I have never really rated him, but he just can't stop scoring and has been consistent all season so far and has the knack of popping up and scoring goals, he really has the killer instinct and has proved me wrong.

Villa player of the season:

Richard Dunne. Despite me putting the Villan James Milner in second place I really feel that Dunne is the reason for our position in the table. He is a leader and and inspiration to those around him and our goals conceded speaks for itself. I think he has only had one bad game all season.

Good thread.

1. Wayne Rooney, doesn't really need an explanation

2. This one is tough for me. I like Milner, but think there are better players. I'm going to give it to fabregas though; it would have been arshavin except for his complete lack of loyalty by saying he wants to join barcelona

3. Darren Bent for scoring so many goals for a team that's so low down in the league, and he's also my team's best player

1. Rooney - Outstanding
2. Drogba - Simply a machine
3. Richard Dunne - Leaves Man City to join Villa on a free, they bring in Lescott for a gazillion quid. Guess who got the better deal?

Honourary mention - Darren Fletcher at Man U. He does his job and does it very well.

Re: Top 3 players of the season + your club's top player

Rooney - best player in the world on current form. Well, until last night anyway.

Bellamy - revitalised at City. A very underated player.

Tevez - would be a superstar in Spain, far better player than Fergie gives him credit for

Shame it's 3 attacking players but Milner, Hart, Reina, Dunne, Dawson & Palacios came close.

Rooney - fairly obvious and I think others here have stated enough reasons why

Drogba - Not far off Rooney in terms of goals and he has been putting in quite an effort for Chelsea of late, not noticed anywhere near as much of his falling over antics either

Fabregas - His contribution to Arsenal has been as good as Rooney's in terms of the league, 14 goals and 13 assists is a superb result so far so in terms of goal contributions it puts him only 1 behind rooney (yes I know stats aren't everything but it paints a picture). Runs the show for Arsenal and is the driving reason they are in with a damn good shout for the title

My Club - errrrr pass, the boot room boy has been doing a good job on Kuyts boots.....in seriousness though I would probably say Reina, without him we'd be likely facing a relegation battle by now

My top three are:-

1. Rooney - moved onto a whole new level this season. The World Cup will see if he's moved on Internationally against the best.

2. James Milner - has progressed so much this season he should be nailed on to go to the World Cup and could/should be seen as the successor to Gerrard/Lampard. He is also the Duracell Bunny and never stops running.

3. Joe Hart - having an amazing season at Birmingham and arguably is the best English keeper around at present.

My team player of the year. James Milner.

1st Wayne Rooney. Don't really think i need to give any reasons for picking him.

2nd James Milner. I'm a massive Milner fan and think Capello should find a way of having him in the side he scores goals, he provides goals he doesnt stop running and never shirks on a tackle. Maybe on the left and play Gerrard behind Rooney. They are the two main stars of this season for me.

3rd Michael Dawson. I think he's been a rock at the back for Spurs and they've needed him, With the likes of Woodgate & King hardly fit he's always done a job and improved massivley for them this season.

Mentions though also to the likes of Drogba & Fabregas who are the reason their clubs are up fighting for the title (All 3 clubs seem to be a bit of 1 man teams this year though) and even though he's now injured Fellaiaini who was immense for Everton all season until his injury the other month.

As for my teams best player. Emil Hallfredsson, It's a toss up between him and Bogdanovic, Bogdanovic has got the goals but Emil's been outstanding on the wing and consistant all year chipping in with a few important goals along the way.

Forgot to put my team's player of the season.

I could go Reina, or Johnson before he got injured, but seeing as Fernando Torres has scored 15 league goals when he's only played 13 full games it's gotta be him. He'll again reach 20 league goals, we've waited years for a player like that again & if anyone can fire us back up the table it's him.

1. Rooney - simply a goal machine at the moment, noone comes close apart from Messi
2. Fabregas - when he plays Arsenal tick and create some amazing chance and score goals.
3. Malouda - what a season he's been having, I think he's finally settled in England

Top player at club - well I support Newcastle and I'd have to say Steve Harper, I'd love to see him wear the England number 1 as he's had a fantastic season, shame he won't cos he's in the championship. There's also players like Gutierrez, Guthrie, Nolan, Carrol and Lovenkrands that came close.

Been brilliant this season & despite playing championship football still often starts for Argentina ahead of Aguero! However, Maradona is clinically bonkers

Best 3 players this season :

Wayne Rooney
Carlos Tevez
James Milner

Not saying in what order! Clearly my team's best player has been Tevez after his move from the other side .... special mention for Bellamy who has been brilliant too and ousted Robinho from the country!

For other teams - Joe Hart and Richard Dunne deserve special praise for settling into their respective teams so well and making them defensively hard to break down .... oops! didn't we have them at one point!

1. Wayne Rooney

Raised his game to meet the challenge of Ronaldo's departure. He seems to have matured since becoming a dad with some of his old petulance gone.

2. Richard Dunne

Defender of the season for me. City could have saved a lot of money by keeping him and not signing Lescott IMO.

3. James Milner

He's stepped up to the plate with competition against Young and Downing, his versatility and work rate are second to none.

Chelsea's player of the season - Branislav Ivanovic

Personally I think he's Chelsea's player of the season by a long way; Drogba may get the plaudits but I've yet to see Ivanovic have a poor game...very consistent (even playing out of position) and has a great attitude to the game.

1. Rooney

2. Rooney

3. Rooney

Club footballer: Rooney

On a serious note think Rooney will pick up PFA player of the year and if he shines at the World Cup then think he could nail World footballer of the year, just the matter of someone called Messi that may spoil it.

Milner - a popular choice, but a player who is fulfilling his potential. Deffo on the place ahead of Walcott, Lennon and SWP, IMO.

Myhill - best player in a crap team. His performance against Spurs was the best I've seen since Nicky Weaver v Charlton.

Carroll - starting to look like he can be the 'target man' he's always looked like, and is not half bad with his feet either. Will reproduce this form in the prem I reckon.

My club's player of the season - Tevez. "Looking better in blue than he ever did in red" - Jon Champion after Tevez scores a hat-trick against Blackburn.

Good thread although personally think it's a little too early in the season for something like this. I say that because Bendtner of Arsenal, for example, is now fully fit and scoring. If he proves to be the player that gets the goals to win Arsenal the title, he'll be my chosen Club player. This may sound like fantasy (considering he couldn't score to save his life at times!) but invariably the team that wins the League from the 'chasing pack' has a stand out player which emerges into a pivotal role. Nevertheless:

1. Wayne Rooney - No brainer really. He's been a one of the best players for some time which is remarkable considering he's only 24. Rooney has that rare quality in wanting to play football and win on the pitch before everything else. If some other multi millionaire footballers followed suit the game would be better place. He's going to get even better too which is good for England and Man Utd but bad for the rest of us!

2. Richard Dunne - My Villa supporting mate raves about him all the time and I've been equally impressed. What I like about Dunne most is how he was ferried out of City, as Club captain, for supposedly better (and certainly more expensive!) players. Some players disappear when something like that happens yet he's just got on with it. My mate also reminds me often that Dunne holds the joint record with Patrick Vieira for most sendings off in the League!

3. Darren Bent - Although Fabregas is an obvious choice, he's been playing at the top of his game for some time. I think Bent has done particularly well as he's a player that didn't quite settle at his previous Club after moving for a big fee but has gotten his head down and done the business for a non glamorous side. 18 goals is a fine return

Club player of the season - Thomas Vermaelen has come in for the modest sum of around £9m and slotted in like he's been there for years. He's played with Gallas for most of the season but has had spells with other partners and done brilliantly. On top of that he's scored 8 goals to boot. When you think of the silly fee's paid for players like Lescott, it shows what a bargain he is.

Best of all.....he's only 24

Defoe, Rooney and Michael Dawson for me.

Best club player for Spurs. Tough one. Really like Bale but it's a toss up between Defoe and Dawson.

Interesting to see how many people have put Richard Dunne. Clearly, he was always the most underrated player in the Prem as week after week, year after year he was quality for us but it all went unnoticed. He was our player of the season about 100 years in a row.

I'm really glad for Dunnie that he's got a chance at a new club where it seems to have really worked for him. Shame that we decided to let him go but that's football I suppose and he'll get a tremendous reception when he comes back with Villa in a few weeks.

Let's hope he's saving one of his trademark comedy own goals for the stadium where he would always guarantee one or two during the season!

Normally against Spurs.

Will save my choice until season actually over, Torres could smack 15 goals in last 10 games to
push Liverpool to 4th, or many other could change many people minds over last 10 games.

Surprised no one has mentioned Lee Bowyer also, had an unbelievable season @ Brum so far, suppose he's not in a top team unlike mosted mentioned. Zamora is another one.

Funny how most players people have posted are all top 5/6 sides.
