Phil Brown Got Sacked.

With 9 games to go this has to be quite a bizarre decision. Nothing surprises me with Hull any more and I have not been a fan of Brown's all season. Surely they could have got someone in sooner.

Teams keep sacking managers these days and it's starting to make football into a joke..

Looking at it from their POV, it's probably good timing.
They evidently think nothing will change in the remaining 9 games under Brown.
Whereas there's plenty of evidence new managers automatically bring a 'lift' and may give them enough out of those 9 games to keep them in the league.
It's certainly worth a shot.

I think we'll still go down...some of the names being touted do not fill me with confidence. He may be a bit out of our league but I hope they can tempt Steve McLaren over...

It's not as if Hull are miles adrift.
24 points with a game in hand over Burnley.
Still getting 1.82/1 for Hull to go down, so if you think it's a cert, slap some dosh on.

My heart would not allow me to do that even though my head is screaming "stick £50 on".

I can't see Shteeve leaving the top of the Dutch league to come to Hull.

The women's institute brawl seems to have been the last straw for the board. He's obviously lost the dressing room (eventually).

Never been a fan of Brown, but as Hull were the only team ever to show an interest in me as a teenager, I've always had a soft spot for them. Hope someone does come in and give them the lift to get enough points to stay up (at the expense of West Ham ).

Just not Brian Laws....1 win in 27 games

I think Burnley & Hull will go down based on poor away form although for an outside punt I might put some money on Wigan @ 8.4. They've got Villa & Burnley at home followed by Man City and Fulham away.

You might laugh at Brown being sacked, but Superdrug have had to lay off 15 people from their Hull store due to reduced sales of fake tan.

Glad to see the back of Phil the Clown. After seeing the way Hull played against the Gooners, I hope they do stay up though. Mr Curbishley anyone? Any team with Jimmy Bullard deserves my support anyway. The guy is a comedy legend and not a bad footballer.

Fratton Park at the weekend, there's worse places for a new manager to start his new job I reckon.

I think it is going to be an absolute nightmare against Portsmouth. It wouldn't be my first choice as a new manager thats for sure. We'll be lucky to draw.

Looks like it's been confirmed, Iain Dowie will take over Iain Dowie confirmed as Hull City manager | Hull City - Times Online

Thoughts anyone?

Looks like nodoby else wanted the job going by the Times article. Hiring somebody with no experience of top flight football mangagement is a strange one for me, and also Dowie and Shearer didn't keep Newcastle in the top flight.

I thought he managed Crystal Palace in the Premier League...

Very poor choice of manager in my opinion but it's done now so I'm fully behind him until he proves to be useless (probably this Saturday).

Dowie has definitely managed in the premiership, with Charlton.
Not for long like, only a dozen or so games.
Hull wanted him when he got the bung from Charlton, actually, but he turned it down.

When Dowie took over at Palace they were hovering just above the relegation zone but he managed to get them into the playoffs in the same season which they subsequently won and onto the Premiership.

Unfortunately their stay there only lasted one season as they were relegated setting a new record for the highest number of points to be relegated.

Despite that, all Palace fans hate Dowie with a vengeance due to the lies that he told when he left as Simon Jordan released him from his contract as he claimed to want to work nearer home in Oldham but he turned up at Charlton the following week.

Dowie should really stick to giving 10 second match reports on sky. At least he's better than Deano Windass at it. I don't understand the appointment to be honest unless Hull have given up and are looking at someone with experience to steer them back up again ala' Roy Keane. He (and Shearer) failed miserably at Newcastle in their attempt to avoid relegation. Newcastle seem to have found their level with their current squad and I would like to think Chris Hughton will stay on if they win promotion, although I think every Geordie will realise that their current squad would need to be ripped up to stay in the Premiership.

I would have liked to have seen Curbishley get it but I would imagine he's waiting in the wings for a bigger club. No offence to Hull.

Most in the frame probably saw Hull as a thankless take imo. A lot of it also has to do with how financially secure these ex managers are now and how they can make a quick buck doing a bit of pundetry for Sky / ESPN / ITV etc with none of the stress associated with management. Must have been a few years since Souness and Keegan managed a club now.

If they'd have got rid of Brown at the beginning of this season when he had utterly failed for over half of last season we would perhaps have been a different proposition for a manager such as Curbishley. However, with only 9 games on the table which high profile manager would be willing to have "relegated" on their CV?
