Managers' attire.

Just wondered what your views are on this.
Most seem to favour a suit, which is as it should be, IMO.
So why oh why does the likes of Martin O'Neill dress like a ballboy?
He even wears studded boots.....
Then there's Tony Pullis and his "I'm not bald" cap.

The cynical side of me thinks some managers wear tracksuits to make a statement, to show they are more 'in touch' with the playing side of the game.

Wenger and Ferguson, two old timers always wear suits although I remember back in the days when we won trophies the Charity/Community shield would take place both managers may don tracksuits or even shorts, although this 'friendly' had that sort of feel about it and that particular fixture takes place at the start of August, where (if we're lucky!) the country is at the peak of summer weather

Personally I think being manager of your club demands authority and no matter how you gloss it up a man in a suit always looks more authoritative than a man in a tracksuit.

Phil Brown obviously takes it to a whole new level with his headset, clearly he's in a league of his own. Words alone cannot express how much I loathe that man

Good god, it gets worse with MON.
Apparently, he gives himself a number (31).

Is he a bit 'special'?

I think O'Neill's is superstition to a certain extent. Pretty sure it's the same top as well he's been wearing year after year. Brian Clough was the same, same green training top. I always remember Cloughie wearing the suit to go out onto the pitch for the FA Cup Final then walking back into the old Wembley tunnel to get changed into his tracksuit.

If you go onto 'google images', you can see the tops do change.
Different sponsors and kit suppliers.

Vic Akers at Arsenal is another plonker.
He's the bloke with the massive belly, always in shorts and football boots.
He's the kit man, for goodness sake....

I think it depends on the person, and if they can carry off the look.

I never minded Martin Jol wearing a tracksuit and baseball cap, but I wouldn't want Harry doing the same. I think I prefer my manager to be dressed in a suit. However, I don't like the way Rangers manager's wear the club tie and jacket. That's a bit too anal for me.

Owen Coyle sits on the bench with his shorts on!!

Anyone remember the Spain manager Camacho during the 2002 World Cup, it's not all good being suited and booted.

Sure does and he still plays or has done recently for the reserves I heard. There's no denying a manager stood there in shorts against a man in a suit inevitably looks incompetent. Crude but true, I say!

He's mental. When Bolton played us a couple of weeks ago, it was about -2, I had roughly 6 million layers on, and he's prancing about in his shorts.

I prefer them to wear a suit and not look like a ballboy.

One of the things that always strikes me when watching European games is when you see Italian managers in bespoke suits and overcoats standing alongside some of our mob dressed like they were taking the dogs for a walk.

Was just about to post that, he looked ridiculous. Wearing shorts with socks pulled right up ...... I snuggled back into my hat, scarves and gloves and laughed

I wouldn't care if the manager of my club wore a woman's dress and high heels as long as he kept winning games.

Sorry...I thought you meant the idea of having players initial's on their training gear.

If professional clubs didn't do this, then the idea would never have filtered down to amateur football, even to underage league's like the one my lad plays in. The days of having to iron a name onto football gear only for it to fall off within a week are long gone.

Hehe. No, was just referring to the managers who have their initials emblazoned everywhere. "Is that Alex Ferguson over there?" "must be, look A.F."
