Australian Open Tennis 2010

I know tennis isn't overly popular here but the first Grand Slam of the year starts now

Few links of interest:

Official website
Draws (Britain's Andy Murray seems to have found himself in the tougher half)
Schedule of play
TV schedule (constantly updated)

I predict Murray to go out before the semi's, Roger Federer to win (shock horror!) and the womens to be completely unpredictable!

A lot of the bigger matches last year were covered on the BBC red button service, surprising but enjoyable. Any idea if that will be repeated this year?

Yep, for those without Sky, they will be covering every Murray match live and the other big matches on the red button.

Excellent Although I find the Eurosport HD broadcasts to be better, the BBC's commentary wins hands down

A couple of very tough matches there for Murray in his half of the draw - Nadal, Del Pottro.

He's got Florent Serra, another Frenchman. Don't know much about him but he's a lot older, shorter and never made the top 30. Another comfortable win on the cards hopefully

Roddick v Gonzalez

what the hell!?

4th set - why did they not replay the point and also why did they not show a replay????

It seemed to me that Gonzalez only stopped because it was called out??

Great match that, shame with the way Rafa had to end it. Don't watch a whole lot of tennis but Murray looked the best I have ever seen. Now I have jinxed him, watch him crash in the semis.

Anyone else think Jim Courier is a bit of a plonker?

It seems like Murray has got a really good chance of winning his first grand slam. He was really impressive against Nadal. I must admit I would like him a lot more, if he had a shred of personality!

He's got a great chance, if Federer has an off day in the final! I reckon a 80% Federer against a 120% Murray, in a Grand Slam final, is still a close call..

I may be wrong but I'm sure Murray has beat Federer more than he has lost to him.I'm also sure plenty will post telling me if I am wrong.

Murray has a very good record vs Federer beat him a few times. As for Murray not having much of a personality yeah he's serious but focused on what he has to do and if it means he wins a few grand slams I don't think it really matters all that much.

Think he has,but only in two bob competitions.Hes only made it to one slam final, and roger out classed him.Nadal is finished due to injuries and roger cant keep this standard up forever, maybe murray could win a slam one day but i dont think hes good enough just yet.

As you say, Federer has won the ones that really mattered and he's quite subtly commented on that during interviews etc.

I don't think Nadal is "finished" although he needs to recuperate fully before putting his body through all this again.

Looks like Murray to make it one set all. Can't believe this game isn't on Beeb HD!

it was....

fair play to murray, some phenomenal shots played especially right at the end. Federer is going to be a tough call if he beats tsonga to make it to the final but Murray is a hard court player so hopefully that will be of some help to him. At least he's making it to finals

Murry had Fed in his back pokect for about 12 months, but in hindsight it conincided with a period where Federer looked like he was all the downslope.

Rafa's injury problems seemed to give Federer a new life and confidence that he was stll the best. Since then I don't think Murray has been close to him.

I haven't seen Murry in this tournament, but last year I lost some faith in him. He looked too defensive and just appeared to be trying to keep in the point.

He's been superb and the opposition hasn't been a walkover despite the fact he's only dropped one set.

I think he'll win it!

Nadal v Federer Wimbledon final will probably be the match of this generation

Anyway Federer sounds like he gives a damn so I predict Fed Ex to deliver. For all the talk I am not sure if Murray really believes he can win. And I want to see if he is prepared to go out there and fight and attack to turn a match around. In all his GS defeats he has wilted and resorted to defensive tennis when questions were asked
