Bunch of men kicking a ball around or a bunch of men running around with a ball jumping on top of each other.

Neither appeal much to me to be honest

Now, Darts is a real sport!!!

I dont like Rugby or football, football is just a bunch of pansies who cant take a bit of pain and roll on the floor crying when a nail breaks, rugby is at least a bit more manly.

But NFL is way better than all of them

Yes, of course, because a few 'pansies' in a average squad of say 25 obviously reflects all the other professionals within the game on the whole as well
Oh and this thread is in the wrong section.

It's the dubious behaviour of rugby 'types' off the pitch that disturbs me.
We had a secretary of a rugby club work here.
Men-only dinner evenings ending up with any number of blokes running around naked, all sorts of japes involving penises in each other's drinks/mouths etc.
Games of 'sticky biscuit' blablablabla.
I've no reason to believe his club was any different from any other either.
If you'll excuse the obvious inuendo, sod that.

Frankly, I can understand why football hooliganism exists, because I get really angry watching football.

It's the bit in the middle of the pitch that annoys me, all those players passing the ball back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, and nothing much happens. I find it really tedious, like HURRY UP AND DO SOMETHING. It's this fact about football that was parodied so brilliantly in that Simpsons episode. I think you know the one I mean? The one that ended up causing a riot in the stadium amongst the Springfield folk because the game was so boring, yet annoying.

Of course, when the ball moves towards a goalpost, then it gets interesting and exciting.

But Rugby, especially Rugby Union, it starts off with a bang. Players grabbing the ball and running with it, getting tackled. Then the joys of a try, and whether they can add to it with a conversion. Penalties are things I don't quite yet understand that seem to come out of the blue (cos Rugby rules are complicated, but I'm still a student of them). Then there's the scrums, sheer weight of numbers pushing against each other to determine who gets the ball, and so forth.

And nothing is more heartbreaking to a team than an interception from the opposition leading to a try and a conversion.

In short, Rugby IS better than football.

I don't mind football but can't stand the people who play it (bunch of fairy, drama queen, self important idiots) or how people change when they watch it or sometimes even just talking about it. Its like the general I.Q. of the room goes down by two thirds... However, I used to be into football, played on Sundays, went to games (well, West Ham anyway....) but the things I've seen, heard and experienced have turned me right off it.

Don't know a thing about rugby, but I enjoy watching it a lot more.

Heard some footballer or other on the news on radio the other day saying how he was going to be 80% fit for the next game... Excellent, well done you psychic genius! How on earth can he work out what 80% of his fitness is going to be on any given time??? How can he work out what 80% of fitness is??? They do come out with some don't they.. Like "its a game of two half's" and "we are going to try and get more goals than the opposition and if we do that then we should be able to win"...

I don't dislike Rugby, watch England when they play and it can be great to watch. But then it can also be extremely boring when it just ends up as a kicking game from one end to the other.

But for me theres a just a general lack of skill in Rugby, its strength over skill. Football is by far the more skillful game and when its played how it should be, like watching Barcalona or Arsenal at times its far more entertaining!

Saying that i'll agree, some games can be dull as, depends who's playing. But that goes the same for any team sport i suppose.

Just my opinion, prepares to get slaughtered by the Rugby fans

Rugby refereeing is better than football refereeing.

Video replays to determine touch downs.
Able to listen to the ref's comments.
Notice how in comparison to football there is little swearing (at least on televised matches). And how little dissent seems to be shown by players.
Ref telling the players what to do and advising them not to commit offences.

Why can't they do that in football?

Do you really honestly think that if football was as boring as people make out it would be one of the biggest sports in the world and probably the most watched and most lucrative?

I much prefer the antagonism, rivalry and (sometimes) downright hatred of football.
I can't get my head around the friendliness of rugby, and while some may argue that's a positive, I say it's a negative.
Can you imagine, for the sake of argument, Celtic and Rangers fans sitting amongst each other, congratulating each other at goals?
Some might say that would be better, I say no way.

Love both sports, played Rugby at a decent level for years, always wanted to be good at football but never had the skill...

I have to agree with Verve on this... Rugby as a game is the epitomy of strength over skill, only 7s or school boy level 15s is this not the case in my opinion.

Just think back to the last world cup... were we in the final through skill or the strength of our pack....hmmmm....

As far as the All Blacks go, yeah they're the best Rugby playing nation about, why? Because their fitness and strength training puts most others to shame.

friendliness a negative ???? which planet do you hail from??? its a sport for heavens sake, not war! The fierce rivalry, takes place on the rugby pitch and only during a match and after that they share a beer. Thats what sport is about- period! There is also a certain amount of rivalry amongst the fans but its only banter as it should be.Never, never any nastiness as rival fans intermingle without any problem at all, its my biggest reason for loving the sport becauyse fans are civil and dont behave like animals
