scotland manager sacked - who now ?

Who in their right mind would want to take on this job. Already the same boring names have come up. Walter Smith Lets hope the SFA do take their time and get someone who is strong enough to handle the job.

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

The problem is not the manager IMO. There is just not enough talent there to work with for the international stage; SAF would have trouble turning their fortunes round.

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

Doesn't require a full time manager so why not ask Fergie to pick & squad & turn up on match days

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

Jimmy Calderwood has suggested he's interested.
Darren Ferguson is also out of a job.

IMO, not that I follow Scotland at all (despise the Tartan Army and their face-painted buffoonery), but it seems to me they need to take a step back to go forward.
Bin the ageing players, accept we won't quality for anything for a while, and blood youngsters.

Somebody looking for 4 years pay for less than 2 years work perhaps. Seriously on a financial level football management strikes me as one of the best jobs to have, I can't believe the FA's and clubs in general haven't realised it's better to put these managers on 1 or 2 year contracts given the frequency of the sackings.

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

I would have said Walter Smith but because of the situation at Rangers I would have to go with John Collins for the job.

Wouldn't say no to Souness either but as he's already ruled himself out I can't see that happening.

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

Surely George Graham could do a good job? He's Scottish, available and (despite some failings); a legend!

And he could still do his work for $ky on the side

The list of candidates is going to be sparse, I hardly think they're going to have much of a quandary.

Walter (boring fitba) Smith
Jimmy (boring fitba) Calderwood
Possibly, on a part-time basis, Craig (muppet voice) Levein.

??

Did you read in the BBC Sport Gossip Column that Joe Kinnear has expressed an interest in the job?

Scotland shouldn't be averse to a non-Scottish manager, but Kinnear's pushing it...

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

i know Fergie always rules himself out of the running, but i reckon he would have enough time to do it, the premier league takes a break for internationals so there's no excuse there, and there's not a manager in the world who'd do a better job.

Scotland don't have a huge talent pool true, but still pretty embarrassing to get thrashed by Wales really. Scotland are probably picking too many players from the Scottish league or something, if your international players are only playing pub football week in, week out you can't really expect too much from them.

Re: scotland manager sacked - who now ?

Joe Kinnear could probably put the FIGHT back in the team. But would his heart be able to stand the strain of managing this bunch of losers. Every one of them should be ashamed of their efforts lately. Or since 1974 at least!

I would love John Collin's to get it.He would give all the old duffer's and lazy waster's a right good kick up the arse and he may even play some attractive football.

or Levein, he knows the Scottish game, but plays booring football.

Isn't Guus Hiddink available now???

Not as far fetched as it sounds....Trappatoni took a very average Irish side very close to the World Cup.

Would Duncan Bannatyne be up for paying his wages in the same way that Denis O'Brien pays Trap's wages for Ireland, and Roman paid Guus' at Russia.
