Re: Rememberance Sunday and Celtic Football Club

Disgraceful.

Apparently Sky Sports muted the singing during their live broadcast so it was missed by the majority.

Shame. And to think Celtic and Rangers (given their away performances in Romania and Manchester over recent months) want to come and join the Premier League.

Let them rot in their own bigotry and ignorance North Of The Border. We don't want them and more to the point, we don't ****ing need them.

I was watching that thinking if only the players then refused to play. Would have been a great statement.

Re: Rememberance Sunday and Celtic Football Club

I used to support rangers and go to the odd match now and again. But for the last few years i have refused to go to any matches as the atmosphere is not nice and i just wouldn't enjoy it. One of my pals whos is a big celtic supporter and goes to a few games doesn't like going to old firm or european games as it just decends into a basically a riot.

Sorry mate, but I just don't agree with that at all. I've been to Seville, Barca and Milan with Celtic, and have never seen anything that could be described as a riot. In fact, when we were leaving the San Siro, the Italian riot police applauded us as we were leaving the ground.

I've also been to 4 Old Firm games, and again, have not witnessed any trouble, though the tension at those games is something else.

So what would you say about what happened at the weekend ??

I've been to a couple of Old Firm Games (as a neutral I might add) and I've seen fights both times outside the grounds and at the train station

Big

That makes my blood boil and I'm not even patriotic. No respect whatsoever. How on earth can they do something like that?!

I thought UEFA recently praised the Scots as some of the best (travelling?) fans in the game?!!

Re: Rememberance Sunday and Celtic Football Club

What these morons don't realise is that 7 of their players were killed in the First World War serving their country. Furthermore, Willie Angus was the only Scottish football player to be awarded the Victoria Cross in 1915 for serving his country.
It's all about their in bred prejudices towards British troops in Ireland- which incidentally was the theme of their 'song' yesterday, relating to an Irish man (Aiden MacAnespie) who was accidentaly shot by a British soldier.

Here it is:

Twas on a Sunday evening the sun was in the sky
As he walked his way to the Gaelic pitch never thinking he was going to die
But as he crossed the checkpoint the sound of gunfire came
The news spread through the border town Aiden McAnespie was slain

For years he was harassed by the forces of the crown
As he went to his work every day he left his native town
The soldiers swore they´d get him the reason no one can say
And sure enough they murdered him in cold blood that sunny day

Oh why did you do it?
Have you not the guts to say
You say it was an accident or even a ricochet
But like Loughgall and Gibraltar you´re lies are well renowned
You murdered Aiden McAnespie on his way to the Gaelic ground

The people heard the gunfire they came from miles around
They saw that you man lying there dying on the ground
His flow of life was ebbing fast and people they tried their best
That bullet wound it was far to deep it went right through his chest

Oh why did you do it?
Have you not the guts to say
You say it was an accident or even a ricochet
But like Loughgall and Gibraltar you´re lies are well renowned
You murdered Aiden McAnespie on his way to the Gaelic ground

Aidens life had ended it was time for judgement day
The soldier he jumped down from the tower and the coward he slipped away
God´s curse on you Britannia for this cruel deed you´ve done
But god will have his final say when your judgement day it comes

Oh why did you do it?
Have you not the guts to say
You say it was an accident or even a ricochet
But like Loughgall and Gibraltar you´re lies are well renowned
You murdered Aiden McAnespie on his way to the Gaelic ground

To say it was an accident is the greatest crime of all
To his heart-broken family the worst had `er befalled
A cross it marks the lonely spot where Aiden was gunned down
As he strolled on that sunny evening on his way to the Gaelic ground

Oh why did you do it?
Have you not the guts to say
You say it was an accident or even a ricochet
But like Loughgall and Gibraltar you´re lies are well renowned
You murdered Aiden McAnespie on his way to the Gaelic ground

with added F**k the Queen at various intervals. Lovely people.

Make up your own mind if this is an appropriate anthem to sing on Rememberance Sunday.

Re: Rememberance Sunday and Celtic Football Club

I thought those scenes at the Celtic game were despicable, but so are your comments "suspected IRA terrorist".

No evidence was ever forthcoming about Mr McAnespie being involved in terrorism. It was common practice for the IRA to admit who were active members should someone die, and they never did in this case.

He had to run a daily torrent of abuse and harrassment from both the RUC and the British Army, and indeed the stories invented around this case changed several times.

You are obviously either a very blinkered individual or a bigot. No evidence was ever forthcoming about Mr McAnespie being involved in terrorism. It was common practice for the IRA to admit who were active members should someone die, and they never did in this case.

In my mind, whether you like it or not, you are no better than those Celtic fans. Its idiots like you and those Celtic fans that give other good people a bad name.
I do not wish this thread to turn into an argument over who is bigoted and who is lily-white. Neither do I wish to cause offence to the vast majority of civil Celtic supporters. Also, as my facts on the deceased Mr McAnespie are clearly up for debate I have edited my original comments. Apologies for any offence.
I would appreciate your comments on me being blinkered/bigoted and an idiot being withdrawn.

This is not a thread to throw insults at forum members you know nothing about.

As it stands this thread was started to highlight the moronic element clearly audible on Sunday.

Bigoted? Probably
Dis-respectful and poisonous? Definitely.

Not the first time Celtic fans have let their club down.
I was at Pittodrie the day after the Armagh shopping centre bomb.
They still belted out pro-IRA songs....

Now your claiming he was accidentally shot. Care to back this up as well with anything other than the British terrorist who shot him's word? Maybe you should actually do some research before you start throwing more lies about.

Re: Rememberance Sunday and Celtic Football Club

The official line is that Mr McAnespie was hit by a bullet fired from a British soldiers rifle that richocheted off the ground. I choose to believe this statement, you clearly don't.

Where do you actually get off in stating a member of Her Majesty's Forces is a British Terrorist?

I only mentioned Mr McAnespie as I was asked earlier what the small, moronic element were actually referring to in their song. (Post # 9)

Please do not attempt to steer this thread in another direction. It is an open criticism of, and again I'll state it, a small, moronic element that choose to attach themselves to CFC.

I suggest you take a look at the recent inquiry into that murder.
I'm leaving it there as Miyazaki is right.

Sorry Scotts, but you really need to check your facts regarding the killing of Aiden McAnespie. The British government don't issue apologies too lightly, in fact, this one took 20 yrs.

LINK

I can't comment on Bowfer's experience, because I'd no idea Armagh had a shopping centre, never mind one that was blew up!

This is a sports forum, can we save the politics for the general chat one?

I don't think anyone would/ could argue that the minority of Celtic fans singing through the silence is anything other than a disgrace.

Shall we leave it there?

British Army Scum. The shot many irish men, women and children. They are the scum of the earth.

Just this year the IRA killed two soldiers and a RUC runt, lets pray they get some more.
