David vs Goliath This saturday

Heavyweight title on the line, a 6 footer against a 7 foot giant weighing over 23 stones and as got more hair then a bear.

Who will win? What you think lads? Hayes doing the impossible here?

Re: David vs Goliath This saturday

Whilst I think a fight of this magnitude deserves a thread of it's own its being discussed over the last few pages in the boxing thread

I want Haye to win (unsurprisingly!) but the twisted side of me says if the BIG man is going to win I hope he really destroys him rather than a points decision

Re: David vs Goliath This saturday

i think a thread specificly for this kind of match is fine seeing as many other exciting boxing matches had its own thread such has the hatton vs pacman thread.

Lets fuel all discussions about this fight in here

Well, just seeing Valuev crowbaring himself out of a car on the way to the weigh-in made me cringe. I think Haye is going to get destroyed.

Re: David vs Goliath This saturday

Who's the best boxer? Haye by a country mile IMO.

Who will win? Valuev IMO.

IMO there is no way that Haye can win with such a height, weight and reach disadvantage. He won't be able to generate enough power punching upwards to the head to get a knock out and it'll only tire him.

Only possible chance, fight on the inside and work the body which of course leads him open to massive bombing uppercuts.

Valuev knock out in the second half of the fight for me.

I'm in a bizarre situation where I may of may not be going to San Francisco tomorrow. If I go then I won't be watching it, if I don't then I'm deffo watching it on SBO.

Re: David vs Goliath This saturday

Can you believe this monster is the underdog lol ?

The odds have shortened lately but a couple of weeks Goliath was 3/1

The only thing Haye has is speed, if he gets caught by one of those 50lb ham hands he is going down for sure.

Really hope Haye can pull it off though.

Re: David vs Goliath This saturday

I still cant work this one out!

Haye is tiny for a heavyweight,im a very similar build to tyson so i im a big guy but not in heavyweight terms.....

Haye is 6'3? same weight as me with 16" arms, i was genuinely shocked by his size, considering tyson was regarded very small for a heavyweight. my forearms are as big as his biceps

the other guy is 23 stone and only has 18" arms, he should have at least 22" arms even if he did not train that hard! i cant see any muscle on him at all from the pictures i have seen in the paper!

So basically haye is going to be far superior in skill, fitness, and speed. But the other guy will only have to keep him away and use his weight advantage to tire haye out imo.

I still wouldnt want to call it though, haye will only need to get a couple of good body shots in and i reckon this guy will crumble, given his lack of fitness. im hoping this is what happens

ive been off looking at video's, Valuev reminds me of audley harrison, big but no get up and go! Haye has a good punch on him but im not sure he would do well under pressure!

Could be a good fight if both of them are up for it

I,ve got 20 pound on valuev to win inside distance 5/1 odds,I would love to see haye win,but I really can't see it,think the other guy is just going to be to big for haye and can see him stopping haye in the latter rounds

Re: David vs Goliath This saturday

Has anyone even watched any of Valuevs fights? Hes utter crap imo, yes hes a beast of a man but hasnt got as much power as you think for a guy that size. Hes slow, one dimensional and ponderous and can only fight straight on.

If haye plays a smart game, attacks at angles and doesnt try and meet valuev head on he will win easily via decision imo. If he gets cocky and doesnt move then he potentially could get knocked out, especially with him having a glass jaw.

Whether or not Haye has the power to KO him is another question.

Ive watched Valuevs last 5 fights and hes been very unimpressive. I mean he only just beat a aged shot fighter like holyfield on points.

You must be huge if your forearms are 16" !!!

Haye's not small really, 6'3" and 15st 8lbs is not really small, have you seen the physique on him? Compared to the average bloke he is big.

Ali was 6'3" and fought about the same weight, in fact Ali was a lot lighter in his earlier days, only 14st 7lbs when Ali fought Henry Cooper. The reason Haye looks small is he's standing next to a monster of a man.

Haye has the speed, power and boxing skills to beat Valuev. Valuez is sooooo slow and cumbersome. In his last fight a 46 year old Evander Holyfield lost a split decision against Valuev (many thought Holyfield won) and Holyfield is shorter, lighter, much older, less powerful and slower than Haye.

David Haye has admitted bending his legs slightly in all the promo shots to make it look like an even bigger size difference...at the weigh-in yesterday the difference was not as pronounced.

Valuev may not be the greatest fighter however no-one has yet to get him on the canvas, let alone knock him out; as such I just cannot see Haye having the power necessary to do so.

That's fantastic odds! If you don't mind me asking which bookmaker? If I can still get those odds (even 3/1) then I'm going to lump on that.

Lol well my username is the nickname my mates gave me

Obviously im much bigger than most people but i meant in terms of the average modern heavyweight im not! I do have masive upper body strength due to my job and training, but even lennox lewis had 18" biceps and he was similar build to haye. it's taken me 10 years to get my biceps to 20" naturally! Tyson had a similar build to me in his prime alough im not as lean as he was, then again i didnt have steroids for breakfast

I saw Valuev against holyfield, and could not help thinking had holyfield been in his prime, he would have whooped ass

He'll do well to get a points decision in Germany I think.
