whats the best wetsuit for golf
i have a 'sunderland ' wet suit which must be 20 years old now. admittedly i did not wear it much for the first 10 of these years (didnt play much golf) but the last 5 years i have worn it regularly through the cold and wet weather. I have to say that it is in really good condition still but methinks it might be time for a new suit. so what are your suggestions lads (and lasses). I looked at a galvin green jacket and quite liked it then i saw the price £199 just for the jacket

I've always regarded Sunderland to be the best, though I've never owned one. How much do you want to spend?

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
i think i spent £200-£250 on my sunderland suit all these years ago. It still washes up like new. If i were to buy a new wetsuit i would probably go to about £300 ish . I wonder whether to stick with sunderland as this one has been such good value for money.I was just looking for other peoples opinions on what makes of wetsuits are good or bad.

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
Depends on your budget but the Calvin Green range is pretty good. Mind you the full wetsuit will cost you the guts of £400 but it is money well spent.

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
Another thing to consider - no matter how much you spend, £400 on Glavin Green or £60 on a Bay Hill wetsuit -
both will keep you pretty well protected from the worst of the rain.
Neither will keep your hands or club shafts from getting soaked
Consider something like these beauties - MacWets
Bought them from my own Pro Shop in July - we seem to get a lot of rain on the West Coast of Scotland
Absolutely brilliant.
The wetter they get, the more grip they have - lifting your ball out of a water-filled 1st hole gets them ready for the rest of your round!!
£400 Galvin Greens 'aint gonna grip your shafts for 18 holes

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
Have a look on Ebay for Zero Restriction rain suits. They are what the US Ryder Cup team wear and are fantastic, gore tex but without the silly Galvin Green price tag.
This is the seller I've bought all my ZR gear from and they are great. This deal is for the Jacket, trousers and Bucket hat. They have BIN prices too
Zero Restriction

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
I have a wet suit by CROSS. Breathable and quiet. I would think though, provided you don't spend less than a ton, any suit you buy should do the job.

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
Sunderland used to be the best, but a lot of new brands came into the market and Sunderland were out dated. They are now back on track but lots of competition.
Cross is very good for the money and i have one.
You must try it on and do not buy over the internet as a good fit is vital.
I prefer a slip on jacket and it does not have the bulky zip and moves with your body better. Gore tex is a heavy and expensive material and not worth it.

Re: whats the best wetsuit for golf
Am I mistaken ? But I thought that 'gore tex' was the only material that was water proof .

gore tex was the origional, but it is too heavy and expensive. I would never wear it.

Too heavy? Noooooooo way
I bought this Glenmuir Rain Bloc in my Pro Shop for £65 and it's very light indeed and, at that price, it certainly 'aint expensive.

Goretex is heavy ?? your having a laugh aren't you Next time your in the pro shop have a look for some of the Goretex Paclite gear and tell me that it's heavy
Cross waferproofs are ok, not 100% waterproof as my brother had a set but after sending the jacket back twice due to leaks he bought a Galvin Green suit instead

It's the original and best, maybe if you could justify the costs then you wouldn't be complaining it's too expensive...I still can't get over the heavy comments too.
Maybe you should bring your Cross gear up to Scotland sometime this winter and play in our normal crap weather and you'll soon realise what's good and what's not
