Thanks: Gave 409, Got 305 | Our nation cannot get passed Beckham
Interesting take from stan collymore from his twitter and from the london lite newspaper. Stan Collymore (StanCollymore) on Twitter
He basicly says why the hell did beckham get man of the match. Quote: |
Collymore told astonished listeners, Disgusted! Beckham only been on for 15minutes. he played a short corner and ended up in a goal, crazy. He's had about 6 touches!
| It was then later revealed that it was "steve bruce" that made the choice.
Collymore then said: Quote: |
Steve Bruce? Unbelievable. James Miner did a better job than Beckham. This is the problem we have with our nation. we cannot get passed a man who is married to a spice girl, who lives in holywood, who wears a sarong, etc etc, Joke, Absolute Joke
| LOL!!!!!!!!

Any wonder Peter Crouch gets over looked all the time despite his scoring record. If only he was better looking.
Watching the analysis after the game it was showing what Beckham did during the game, and most of his passes did not even reach a team-mate.
Even Capello said giving him MOTM was like Obama getting the Noble Peace Prize.

Not sure Collymore should be mentioning Hollywood, he was quite happy to take a bit part in basic instinct 2 if I remember rightly.

I found it very surprising that Ben Foster got the goalkeeper's shirt too. With James injured and Green suspended surely the like of Paul Robinson, Chris Kirkland and Joe Hart are better placed than Foster? He won't play another game for United when Van Der Sar is fit and has looked very dodgy so far this season.
Sometimes, I think its more about the team you play for than your actual ability.

Here's my conspiracy theory.
Its all a hidden agenda to get Beckham selected for the WC squad.
Most football fans, if they know their game and are brutally honest, would say that Becks is past it at the highest level of football, and will not figure if he was to come up against Brazil, Spain or Holland in the WC.
But I think there is an element who really want him in the team, simply for publicity. Don't ask me who it is. PErhaps the FA, perhaps certain journo's who like him, perhaps someone attached to Becks himself who has the power/money to influence media and indeed individuals so that they give him rave reviews and MOTM awards when he doesn't deserve them.
Personally, I would bet my mortgage on Becks being at the WC next year.

I seem to remember him having surgery on his nose, and after he was back playing, an interviewer on MOTD asked him how it was, and he said something like "Yeah the nose is fine, and now I'm looking like a million dollars as well"
Very underrated in amongst the erm, y'know erm, Wayne like Rooney's and erm, y'know, the like.

All last night's match showed me was just how much England will struggle during the World Cup, after David James, there is nobody who has the ability to step in during international tournaments. God help England if James is injured.
I don't understand the fascination with David Beckham..... sure, he was 'once' one of the best midfielders in the world but now..... never. How the heck does he still get anywhere near the first team.
England rested a fair few players last night and the replacements were ok for the opponents they had, anyone better would have overcome them easily. It really shows a lack of strength throughout the squad, Capello must be praying his squad can stay injury free going into the tournament.

Him and Milner did more than the rest of the midfield put together for the small part of the match they were on.

On Beckham, he offers something a little bit different to Lennon, Wright-Phillips & Walcott. I don't see him as a starter but surely a good squad player, you know he'll give 100%, is an inspiration to the younger players and still is a threat from set pieces. I think I'd take him for those reasons alone.

Walcott > Lennon/Joe Cole > SWP > Beckham
imho
Yeah I know, but there is a good while yet for players to get back to fitness

Beckham is a fine passer but no better than the other players recently mentioned.
If fit and playing in Italy, he'll be there on the plane 100%, for some right reasons but equally as many wrong ones!

IMO he is still plenty good enough to be in the squad. He can make things happen from out of nowhere.
He's never had the legs to run past people and get a cross in, so the fact that he's getting older has no impact at all for me. He doesn't need too to beat people. Give him the ball anywhere and he'll create chances especially playing in the same team as Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard.
Beckham HAS to be (and will be) going to the world cup imo.
