Re: England v Ukraine

A trip to a dodgy pub and a pint or two looks the best bet to me

Just been reading on the Guardian website, the guys running this event on the web have at most had 50,000 watching a Serie A match last season. Even the beeb record is only a stream to 230,000 over the web.

Given the cost of advertising on top to promote this venture, I'm really surprised this lot didn't accept the offer from the BBC of £1.3M, oh well.

Re: England v Ukraine

I was going to start another rant thread about this but will post here instead.

How on earth have the FA, The Government, Jesus, Barack Obama etc allowed for an England game to not be on any English TV? Madness.

It will be on my TV. No it is shocking mate. Complete joke, is there highlights later tonight. An excuse for most to go down the pub though so can't be all bad.

Why call it a dodgy Pub? Called supply and demand.

You can buy it for £5? Why stick double in a betting account to watch it?

This is gonna be a interesting test this afternoon normal 3pm KO's get shut down on things like justin.tv by Net Result or the streams can be a little jumpy. The official stream is up and stable (at the moment just a new promo on a loop), I'd guess there's going to be a lot more online today. The other thing to keep your eye on is BBC or ITV and highlights being announced at about 7:15pm...or not as the case may be.

For the TV geeks...Bet 365's stream is a 4:3 centre cut whilst the main website is 16:9.

I've seen worse streams still stable although equally seen better....wonder where the studio is, IMG? Anyway anything with James Richardson is worth it. They've even got a competition and at £1.50 a text they've clearly though about how to make the most out it.

At first i wasn't too concerned this wasn't on TV but now at the time I beginning to realise what a shambles the whole scenario is. The guardian website already said his internet feed has frozen and this is meant to be the future of football? Sad really.

Well mine hasn't frozen/dropped out unlike some of the unofficial ones. It could of course be his connection.

Re: England v Ukraine

If Its in the "normal" size on the screen it is cracking quality.

Ive got the laptop linked up to a 42" tv via vga and maximised and its like watching VHS.
For me i dont mind paying £5 as im not a sky/setanta subscriber BUT it infuriates me that its not on terrestrial.

My connection hasnt dropped yet, but will be happier after 90 minutes.

P.s im getting fed up with ferdinands lack of concentration, he needs to forget fergie giving him a bollocking if he gets injured.

It's fine not MLB.tv quality but certainly better than some of the 3pm KO streams I've seen on Saturday afternoons.

EDIT Even sold some advertising it's seems nothing pre-game but Mars/NPower at halftime and an in-game promo for the FA saying tickets are still available for Wednesday's game.

Thanks for the replies on the quality - Spaced and HDsport.

I don't think anyone has announced highlights yet. Don't even know why I am saying yet as I don't think its going to happen personally which makes it even more infuriating. If highlights were on terrestial the internet only debacle wouldn't be such an issue.

Well the reports were 19:15 was the embargo for promos...so anytime after that and looking the schedules neither BBC or ITV have anything that would be too difficult to cancel if they did get highlights.

There is also the chance of something tomorrow (remember ITV did the deal with Setanta 24 hours later for the Croatia game)...it would be cheaper to buy (Kentaro would have sold as many buys as they could) a Sunday lunchtime slot perhaps.

You're forgetting the fairly unique circumstances as to why this online..

Setanta beat the BBC to the rights (£5.5m to £4.5m)

Setanta went bust...rights returned to the Ukrainian FA/Kentaro

Ad revenue dropping off for TV.

'Traditional broadcasters' not that interested/worried about buying a potential dead rubber...a bid of £1.3m from Five before the Croatia game was rejected. Kentaro say they will go PPV online.

England qualify easily (not often the case)...broadcasters still not that bothered Kentaro do the only thing they can...

Some food for thought....no England qualifier has gone for much less than £3m in recent years. ITV are paying about £2m a game for the home friendlies given up by Setanta. Can you blame Kentaro for not accepting £1-1.5m for a qualifier!?

EDIT I've got BBC News on in the background and they've said they can't bring you the action until the game is over so I'd guess if you want to see brief highlights watch the news channels after the final whisltle.

Indeed Sky News said that they will show highlights during their sportsline show at 7:30. I would imagine they will be very brief, basically just covering the goals and some other opportunities.
