Add Portugal into that category too, if anything there's is the more perilous situation. The two best players in the World not at the World Cup would be a shame.

Indeed, there do seem to be an awful lot of the established big nations who are making something of a hash of qualification (France). Even more surprising is the difficulty of the smaller nations such as Poland, Sweden and Czech Republic. Even in Africa there seems to be some difficulty for the usual suspects like Egypt and Cameroon.
I do not really pay that much attention to internationals usually but are we perhaps in the middle of something of a transition in international football. Even the England team is man for man a much weaker unit than it was 10 years back.
Would be a shame to see Messi and/or Ronaldo not at the World Cup (especially Ronaldo, if he aint playing footy the papers will be full of his waxed chest as he miraculously avoids getting skin cancer).

Maradona is not the great Saviour alas | I don't think they need a win tomorrow. Both Ecudor and Columbia (who look like the two immediate threats to Argentina) have tricky away games to Bolivia and Uruguay respectively, plus there is still two games for them to play and they really only need to place 5th in the table to then be placed in a intercontinental qualifier.
What the AFA do need to do is bin Maradona as he simply hasn't a clue.

Are Argentina the international equivalent to Newcastle in putting their faith in 'one of their own' who hasn't got any experience at managing at such a level? Saviour indeed. |

Maradonna's fell out with Riquelme so not picking him not helping him out with the press. If they defend like they did against Brazil the other night I think anyone could get a few goals against them.

You'd fancy Argentina if they can sort themselves out to get 3 points in the next game against Peru. A lot for me depends on what happens in Ecuador v Uruguay match. Looks a great match the last one Argentina v Uruguay

Very sad indeed that we may not see the current two best players in the world Messi and Ronaldo at the World Cup. I for one want to see the best players and teams, it will be a real shame if Argentina don't qualify but everyone has to earn the right to patricipate. With the likes of France, Czech's, Turkey also struggling it could be an interesting to see how the World Cup unfolds should they not get there.

Wont be sad at all , if youre not good enough then hard cheese. Its good to see that nations cant assume they will sail through qualification anymore.
