Chelsea banned from making transfers!

Just heard on SSN...

FIFA have banned Chelsea from registering any new players for the next two trnasfer windows after in incident with a Lens player in 2007.

Basically means Chelsea can't sign anyone new until 2011.

No wonder they were so keen to dish out new contracts to the existing players

I think if they'd seen this coming they would have concentrated more on bringing in some new blood before any banning order. I would've thought the fact that they concentrated on getting new contracts for their existing squad would seem to indicate that this wasn't expected.

It'll be interesting if they get any injuries to key players to see how Ancelloti copes.

Incredible. Chelsea lawyers will worm their way out of this somehow but what on earth happened to incur such a move by FIFA?

Well, the football governing bodies are enjoying their crazy-arsed punishments at the moment, aren't they?

Re: Chelsea banned from making transfers!

they signed some youth player from Lens. Kakuta i think his name was but no idea what they did wrong.

Might have been tapped up because i seem to remember when they got convicted for taping up cashley cole they said more severe punishments would be given in the future if the same incident occured.

The big Clubs have the power in the modern game not the authorities. I would be staggered if this ban fully stands.

Barcelona still bang on about Fabregas to this day (not suggesting Arsenal did anything wrong before anyone jumps on me).

For me the clubs do have the power in the game and could easily force a similar situation like what we had recently in F1. Who'd still be interested in the UEFA champions league if all the big clubs walked away and formed their own super league.

To be fair we're always going to get the cries of "Platini/Blatter/FIFA/UEFA hate English football" nonsense and conspiracies whenever the teams are punished.

It's something to do with this Kakuta being in breach of contract at Lens, who terminated it and he was when taken up by Chelsea - FIFA have concluded that Chelsea put him up to it - £682,000 fine is a quite a bit for a teenager to stump up!

Reading on the fifa website both Chelsea and the player are jointly liable to pay this fine. I hope Roman doesn't put his back out looking down the back of the sofa to find this money

Re: Chelsea banned from making transfers!

I wonder how Fifa did not act over Fabregas, Pique, Macheda then it's crazy. Why don't Uefa/Fifa make it impossible to sign players under the age 18 to professional contracts across the world to solve this issue.

It realistically means Chelsea cannot sign anyone until January 2011.

Frank Arnesan has been good value for money since he was tapped up from Spurs.

Does this mean Sheva will be staying.

This ban has nothing to do with tapping up players under 18. Chelsea went to a player and coerced him into breaching his contract with Lens, and then gave him a contract themselves.

How low can you go?

Quote:
FIFA said in a statement: "The French club had lodged a claim with FIFA seeking compensation for breach of contract from the player and requesting also sporting sanctions to be imposed on the player and the English club for breach of contract and inducement to breach of contract respectively.
"The DRC found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club. Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such breach.

It's a good idea, but I think rules regarding the age a player can sign a pro-contract are determined by the respective national FAs.

No no, let's be fair. The findings have been made by a tribunal and it should be respected

Re: Chelsea banned from making transfers!

I maybe wrong but supposedly in a few european countries full professional terms can't be signed until the player reaches 18. That's supposedly how Arsenal got Fabregas & Anelka and Man Utd got Pique and Macheda. There is no doubt in my opinion that Chelsea induced the young player to break his contract. Chelsea are not the only club to have done this and I don't believe that this type of punishment would have been administered to Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid et al.

Where is Uefa/Fifa moral compass when it comes to racial chants from teams all around Europe. Also, I'm under the impression that lot's of young players are owned by businesses or individuals in South America. So does that not look like legal enslavement of young players.

I have not read of any movements to outlaw this behaviour in South America.

Whether you are fan of Chelsea or not the punishment is draconian.

Uefa/Fifa are in my opinion responsible for actions like this by clubs because the have not put in place rules to deal with this situation. All clubs have to operate under Fifa/Uefa rules so clubs will exploit loopholes where they find them.

Re: Chelsea banned from making transfers!

Roma were handed the same two transfers periods ban in 2004 and a fine for the same offence when they signed Philippe Mexes from Auxerre so there is a precedent for this move by FIFA.

CAS subsequently cut the embargo in half and reduced the fine on appeal, one suspects this will go the same way if not totally overturned in Chelsea's case too.

I'm sure that's why they made the judgement so over-the-top: because they knew it would be cut on appeal.

No it isn't. It's thoroughly deserved. The club has a reputation of being caught doing similar things so it's of no surprise that they've been punished in such a way.

Re: Chelsea banned from making transfers!

Real Madrid had been trying to get Ronaldo to break his contract at Man Utd for at least two years if not longer. Constant articles in Marca and the English were engineered to unsettle and in the end get the player to move. I'm not the greatest Man Utd fan but Madrid were at it.

I agree Chelsea have previous with Ashley Cole but you would have to be naive to believe that no other major clubs have used this behaviour to obtain players. These clubs have had no sanctions apart from Roma. I just believe that the ultimate marquee clubs would be treated differently.

Does beg the question though of whether Chelsea are any worse than other clubs or just maybe a bit more clumsy when it comes to getting found out.

I still think this whole tapping up is a bit of a joke myself. How many managers haven't let slip to some journo they are interested in signing a player, said newspaper then drops the headline "So and So in for player" to fill the column inches. If Moyes is to be believed the papers knew Man City wanted to sign Lescott before Everton was contacted.
