First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

Big day today all happening on my birthday

Hoping Arsenal can make my day complete with a win at old trafford!

Eduardo is out (my suspicion is that wenger wants to keep him out of the public eye for a while )

Fabregas is out as well along with nasri, walcott and rosisky.

Whats Manu's injury list like? Van da Sar back in?

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

Out of the top 4 this is definately the best match to watch. They both play attacking football which is more than can be said to what is usually a bore fest between liverpool and chelsea.

First time in ages I would have said I was unsure about a Man Ure win. I hope Arsenal might sneak it.

Maybe because they cheered the biggest diving fairy the league has ever seen for 5 years?

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

So a Rooney dive swings the game for United, after a blatant and clear Arsenal penalty is waved away.

I look forward to the accusations and frothing anger from the British Press about Rooneys cheating.

Oh wait, he's English. Nevermind.

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

IMO Rooney did start going down before contact was made. In my mind thats a dive, had he not he'd have been brought down anyway.

The way Eduardo will be being booed now is down to nothing less than the attention his dive has recieved. Had the attention not gone on him no one would have done a thing when he came on today.

One mistake in his career and he's being slaughtered for it!

Eboue on the other hand...it's not the first time get him out of our club!!

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

Rough on Arsenal but points don't get handed out for possession or dominance. ManU in no way deserved to win but football is not fair. Stunner of an own goal, a real beauty. And it was a penalty, absolutely stone wall.

Carrick and Anderson seem to be completely without confidence, I wonder if a hair dryer from SAF and a memory of the CL final has completely left them without the self assurance they need.

Lol speaking in general about ManUs midfield over the season so far (and in Anderson, his career at Utd in general. I like the player but he seems like he is never settling into the team; I expected him rather than Nani to be steping up big time and turning their potential into performances). Carrick today didn't look half the player he was last season. That said, Giggs was pretty iffy too but it was much the same in each of the last 2 seasons and they went pretty well come May.

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

Sickening result today. To come away with nothing and -1 goal difference is unreal

Both were penalties. If Arshavin had reacted and rolled around like most players do when 'tackled' like that the ref would have felt more inclined to give a penalty. If that happens in the middle of the pitch its a foul. The player has gone in two footed, not controlled the ball nor won it (unless of course directing the ball flat on your arse with your hand is now acceptable).

The penalty given is typical as tho Rooney has got to the ball first and the contact has taken him down, he's toe poked it at such pace he's never going to get the ball. It's out of play before he's even hit the ground. However Alumnia is a plonker flying in like that and those get given much more often than not.

Eboue is not good enough to play for a Club with ambitions like Arsenal and Diaby looks like he never will be.

Watch the replay - Rooney was falling before any contact from the keeper.

Best team lost.

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

great performance. i am upset with the result but manu was very very lucky.

Arsenals back for never put a foot wrong while we was ahead and our midfield and attacking play troubled united. it took a brilliant save and the bar to save united bacon.

Diaby? stil not sure why his playing but wenger MUST see somethin in training for him to start. i feel sorry for the lad on his own goal. he did well to pick himself up and trouble united. its a shame his finishing was awful.

If arsenal keep putting in a similar performance every week until may, dont be surprised if we are still in it for the title. From what i can see, this was a flukey loss on arsenals part.

a few inches here and there and arsenal would have been 3 goals up but like people say, football can be crual.

Re: First big premiership game: Manu vs Arsenal

Interesting game ruined by a few things:

Fletcher completely poleaxing Arshavin, handling the ball and getting nothing for it - complete craziness

Rooney's dive for the penalty. And the media (lack of) reaction to it. It once again proves that they have no interest in discussing things intellegently for the good of the game, and instead just want headline. Considering all the furore surrounding Eduardo, that should have been a MAJOR talking point.

Eboue's ridiculous dive. What goes on in that guy's head? Astounding.

With 20 seconds to go, Mike Dean sending Arsene Wenger to stand amongst fans who routinely make paedophile chants towards him. When he kicked that bottle, it wasn't even a violent kick and certainly no more vioent than Fletcher's challenge on Arshavin. I absolutely loved Wenger's reaction to it.
