Wimbledon 2009
Thought I'd start a thread for the upcoming championships. Been a Wimbledon fan for many years - I guess thanks to my Mum who forced me to watch Borg, Connors, McEnroe, Chris Evert, Martina etc many years ago in the mid 70's. I know she'll be watching from above now!
So this year we'll have the new roof to contend with. Sod's Law it won't rain though for the first time in many years! Will make for an interesting atmosphere if it does rain though.
Who do I think will win?
I'm going to say one of the Williams sisters for the Women's title. Probably Serena.
Men's - I'm actually going for Murray. I have a sneaky suspicion he'll do it, depending of course on a favourable draw resulting in Nadal or Federer being eliminated by one another along the way leaving the remaining one for a final showdown with Murray.
Be nice to sit back and watch it in HD too.
Just over 48 hours to go

How does that work then? The draw is designed as so the only way the top two seeded players can meet is in the final. Considering that both Nadal and Federer occupy those positions, they're not going to meet in any round other than the last.
I'm pretty sure that Nadal is in section 1 (top half) and Federer is in section 8 (bottom half).
Anyway, it's looking as if Nadal might not make it, or at least be no where near 100%, so Federer will probably be walking away with the title as I can't see anyone from the rest of the pack being able to get anywhere near him on grass.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
Yep. Murray as the third seed would indeed probably be drawn to face Nadal in the semi - who with dodgy knee still has more of a chance to win than Murray... which is merely to underline the gulf in class that the world's best player has. He's only going to enter if he is fit, so if he withdraws then that's number 15 for Fed Ex

Re: Wimbledon 2009
Nadal might have to pull out which will be a shame but i fancy Federer to win the tournament with or without Nadal in it and break the all time grand slam record. I think he has the bit between his teeth now.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
The roof is strange i was at the test event and it was pouring down outside but everyone inside was completly oblivious to the fact didn't even hear it. Also could be interesting if anyone decides to do a high lob

Re: Wimbledon 2009
My sisters lived in Wimbledon for 5 years and I'm actually going to get to go a match this tournament at last Dunno which tho
I want Murray to win, seem him play a lot lately and he just wants to win, whoever he is playing in whichever competition. I love that attitude and being a footy fan, it's quite refreshing.
But I reckon Nadal won't make it (to be announced today), Murray will get to the semi's and Federer will win it

Re: Wimbledon 2009
Nadal might go, but his knees wont hold out until the semi's when he's due to play Murray.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
i've got to say, i think murray will actually win it this year.
i don't think nadal will compete at all and murray has already beaten federer in their only meeting this year.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
Murray has beaten Federer on the last four occasions including two victories from this year. The omens are good for him then in that repect but i still have a feeling for Federer who if he does win it, wont have anything left to prove.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
Big Shame Nadal is out. Has Murray's ever beaten Federer on grass?

Re: Wimbledon 2009
How does it work now Nadal has pulled out, does he stay as first seed but doesn't play or do all the seeds get bumped up one (eg Federer becomes #1) and all the fixtures get changed accordingly.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
Think all the meetings may have been on hard court. The overall record is 6-2 in favour of Murray though.

Re: Wimbledon 2009
I would have thought everyone moves up one and someone else could get a wild card. Not suer entirely though.

I read on the BBC earlier that its a complicated procedure that #5 seed takes #1 and the #17 seed takes the #5 cant remember what happers to the place at #17
