Football Transfers / News - 2009/10 Season

If mod objects please close, but the social groups are dead
granted the season is over, not one word (expect by me) about the recent England games we had were talked about in Social groups, says a lot.

- So biggest deal in history is Ronny to Real Madrid.

- Liverpool are closing in on Glen Johnson from Pomey, expecting a medical i read.

- Barry has gone to Man City for the right reasons, money

- Tevez is going somewhere, or not, but he cant make his mind up.

I think its going to be an interesting season, with Ronny and Tevez gone/going, Manu may not be as strong, Liverpool have less to spend, so they say. Man City have a lot to spend. So will it be the usual top 4 again this season?

- Valencia to Man Utd
- Looks like Barcalona are trying to hijack Real's bid for David Villa

Re: Football Transfers / News - 2009/10 Season

Arsenal have apparently all but signed Ajax captain and centre half, Thomas Vermaelen. We've also got some 15 yr old, but that's hardly news at the Arsenal!

Yes. In fact I'm convinced you won't see a change in the top four for at least another 3 years.

depends on how they use the money. i can't imagine valencia will be the end of the spending, and if, as is being reported, the ronaldo deal was done a year ago, i can't imagine fergie hasn't got something lined up. would be mad if he left it till now to start thinking about and organizing replacements, knowing ronaldo was going.

i'm surprised at how quiet city are bing as well, i thought they would be going gung ho from the minute the season closed.

liverpool and arsenal should be very interesting, both trying to clsoe gaps but of a different nature...if villa strengthen arsenal will not want to be fighting them for a CL palce again...bit i can't imagine the gunners will be happy with 4th anyway..they'll want higher..

Re: Football Transfers / News - 2009/10 Season

From an LFC point of view - Johnson is a good player but £18m sounds a lot, especially when you consider he was valued at £8m at the start of the year!

Rafa must be confident of keeping Alonso and Mascherano is he is prepared to splash what would seem to be the majority of his transfer budget on an £18m defender

I reckon money will be the deciding factor - just like it was with Gareth Barry

Re: Football Transfers / News - 2009/10 Season

Johnson, £18m, hilarious. It's these sort of fee's that makes Wenger shy away from such transfers and players. He's a good player, but is worth about £10~13m, max.

As for Tevez to Liverpool, I think there's more chance of Ferguson getting down to a bit of flamenco with Benitez than selling him one of the fan's most popular players!

Ferguson has no choice as Man U don't own Tevez. They may have first option on him but that's it. Tevez can go where he likes. Agree with you re: Johnson, £18m is way too much

Re: Football Transfers / News - 2009/10 Season

I understand they don't own him but Ferguson would never let a player like that go to a team which just finished 4 points off his own. You could see him keeping him for now just to rebuke it and then letting him go in January to a foreign club..well that's my gut feeling anyway

It seems Madrid are after our right back now! So that's our manager, left back, right back (and if they had their way) central midfielder they'd all like to have!

With regards £18 million for Johnson maybe that's the new £10 million price since the Ronaldo & Kaka Transfers. Used to be 30 million would buy you world class, now that figures has seemingly doubled. Don't get me wrong a lot of money though for a defender who's only recently in my eyes shown real promise.

Well it wouldn't be like Ferguson to throw a spanner in the works

As for the Arsenal situation, a very good friend of mine is a fan and he is distraught at the minute - poor season followed by a hell of a lot of speculation. It certainly is warming up to be a very interesting close season

Hull City look like having Marlon Harewood and Fraizer Campbell as their two up front next season...could be worse I guess.

U seem to be under some illusion that Ferguson has some magic spell that dictates where Tevez moves...or that Tevez wants to remain at Utd and spend the rest of his career on the bench...

From everything thats coming out...especially from Tevez camp...he wont be at utd next season...irrespective of how much fergie wants to prevent him from going to one of his rivals...that actually seems to be more of a motivation for him to move...

My gut feeling is that he'll be at stamford bridge next season...Champions League and loads more money then at Liverpool...

Without going too off topic, it was ultimately a poor season yes. Wenger maintained his priority of the League, Champions and FA and kept saying "judge us at the end of the season". Well the League table doesn't lie and we capitulated against Utd in both legs and lost, yet again, to Chelsea in a cup competition after, yet again, taking the lead whilst our 'best player' twiddled his fingers on the bench. Oh well!

This is true and English international players moving between British clubs have always incurred a 10-15% 'premium' as if by default!

Agree with that totally...when he has full control over the player...in this case he doesnt...and thats the main problem...the talks have started now...and Tevez has made it clear he needs to play more...I doubt even fergie could convince him of that now that Rooney is like to be #1 striker and berba still in the frame...possiblilty of huntelaar or another striker on his way...that still leaves Tevez 3rd/4th choice...and the boy aint stupid...he'll know that too..

And I think this is the reason Liverpool could end up with Tevez. Benitez would love to be able to get one over Ferguson (as well as sign a new player).

And as others have said. When the loan deal finishes, Man Utd have no say over where Tevez goes.

Interestingly, if he was to leave to go to Chelsea, could he not end up as third choice there too? Drogba is a favourite when fit (and reports suggests he is not leaving now), and Anelka won the golden boot last year. Which one would be dropped?

Completely agree. If he got shunted once because of Berba coming in, he'll be wary that any newer signings like Benzema etc could do the same to him this season.

Personally i think he'll go to City as although he may feel he's been shut out at Utd, he clearly still loves the fans and thus i don't think he'll want to go to Liverpool. On paper Chelsea seem the front runners but he'll no doubt look at the revolving door of managers and how each favours different players and he might see himself as 3rd choice up front again.

The two main draws for a switch to Liverpool over Chelsea are the Spanish influence/language and manager stability but i still doubt these will outweigh his feelings that he would annoy the Utd fans.

When it comes to Johnson i think it's a good deal. Remember we wanted Alves a couple of seasons ago and reportedly the owners wouldn't stump up the cash - how much would it ake to prise him from Barca now? I honestly think Johnson is one of the top 3 in his position in Europe.

Arbeloa will probably go in order to make room and fund half the deal and the majority of the rest will be scrubbing off Pompey's IOU from Crouch. Essentially it's only likely to cost a few million to get a far better player than Arbeloa.

Another good reason for it go Liverpool's way as he would be 2nd choice for sure...but I agree with Mabo...U can clearly see Tevez loves the Utd fans...can't see it working out...

There's a rumour floating around today that Campbell has attracted the interest of Newcastle United. I can't see any truth in it though. I mean, why would he move to a Championship club with no manager, an owner who wants to sell and where every player is on the transfer market? At Hull he'd be guaranteed a place in the first 11 every week and would be playing in the biggest league in the world.

I have a feeling Drogba will be on his way - hopefully with us signing either/both of Tevez and Aguero. Even if we don't sign them, I think his head will be turned by the imminent departures of Carvalho and Deco to uncle Jose...

Well after UEFA rule on the Champions League debacle then Drogba may well be on the phone to 'uncle Jose'

Yeah, load of guff I think. Campbell will have already signed for us but the new shirt and sponsor is not revealed until 01 July, they'll be waiting until he's back from the U21 Cup before revealing him in the new strip. Until then the rumours persist.

Newcastle has no manager, an owner wanting to get out and a wage bill so huge it could fund a small African country...as if they are buying £6 million players on £25,000 a week!

Yay, we've got Chelsea away on opening day! An easy three points there I think...

£18m might seem like a lot for Johnson but he's still young; I would have been happy for Man Utd to buy him, we could do with a clear number 1 right back.
