It was just as bad throughout the entirety of the Spain match as well. If you listen to them bloody trumpets for too long they start to sound like the monolith from '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

Agreed! They gave me the funny/fuzzy head feeling after about an hour of the Spain vs NZ match. Had to watch USA v Brazil on a low volume, shame because the commentator (forgotten his name, not Mark Bright) is my favourite one of the lot, very knowledgable man.

Re: Confed Cup

lol my flatmate complained about the horns too

Got to say though good tournament so far with teams having a go. Rooting for Egypt until 56 bailed them out. USA were robbed against Italy. Clark should not have been sent off and as usual the ref bottled against sending off the two Italian defenders who did not even try to disguise their fouls

Rossi played well for Italy yesterday, it turned the game in their favour when he was put on in the 2nd half. I bet SAF is gutted how well Rossi has developed since leaving Utd.

Eh, why would he be?

Rossi wouldn't have been given the first team opportunities he has at Villareal if he stayed at Man U, and part of the deal included a clause whereby Man U have first option to buy him back at a later date.

He would have been a 'free' option instead of Tevez. Regarding the 'buy-back' clause - it is a pretty high figure IIRC, a lot higher than they let him go for.

I don't recall seeing the figure quoted in any of the articles I've read, have you got a link?

USA deserved it, great team ethic and hard work paid off tonight. Too many of Spain's big names didn't perform in this game.

Re: Confed Cup

I don't think i've ver seen Xavi play so many misplaced lazy passes - 66th game of the season though.

Fair play to USA, they might even have had a chance to score more if the linesman was on his game.

Re: Confed Cup

Rather than have a pot shot at another forum member for expressing his opinion, why not post something constructive? I've never read anything as ridiculous as asking for a link for an opinion expressed over a football match a person has just watched!

Xavi was average and Villa was out of sorts. Riera showing that he is not about to displace Silva in the first XI come 2010. Casillas went down too early for the first goal. The defence in general will not want to be watching too many replays of both USA goals.
DeMerit, Onyewu and Donovan defying the fact that the USA had one day less rest. Howard was supreme. Two centre backs were awesome. Good hustle, interceptions, kept it tight and stayed strong. Donovan was energetic and all over the pitch helping to defend and launch attacks

And I will not be posting a link for that. I don't need some part-time pundit to confirm what I saw myself

I'm not sure if Rossi is the answer. Yeah he did more than good when he came off the bench against the USA, but when he started he showed again precisely why he left Old Trafford in the first place

Neither am I. I was pretty impressed with Josey Altidore of the USA though. Ex New York Red Bulls and now, ironically, signed by Villareal.

I read the link of the story that has emerged in today's Daily Star, but despite quoting a figure of £15m, it doesn't mention that being the buy back fee apparently agreed in the contract arrangement between Man U and Villareal. Seems to me that sdb123 is making things up to justify his claims that Fergie is gutted for letting a player go that simply wouldn't have had the opportunities he's had elsewhere that he would have had at Man Utd.

Yeah, Fergie must be really gutted.

EDIT: And just to add; the same paper ran a story about Man U and Rossi in November containing quotes from Fergie himself that no return fee had been agreed, which if you think about it from Villareal's perspective, makes absolute sense.

Brazil were sloppy and were lucky not to end up the same way Spain did last night.

It's a shame teams like South Africa don't put in similar spirited shifts in against lesser teams though, as they'd probably find themselves a far more successful outfit if they did.

Re: Confed Cup

ed_mcl - grow up. Who honestly gives a **** about whether or not Man Utd will sign Rossi back. This is about a Confederations Cup that has mostly delivered excellent football

I hate this Brazil side so much. Yes it is a formula that works for them but still. Don't get me wrong - I'm a Liverpool fan so have no absolute need at all for pretty passing for a team to be likeable. I very much applaud USA's victory and progression to the final. I just do not like the Brazil side. You might claim that having Kaka behind the front two shows the progressive football they play, or the fact they are top scorers in the Cup right now, but then just look at the way they swarm back to defend. Its the whole style now
