The Derby - information please !

I watched the Derby yesterday and was suprised when they were interviewing one of the twelve jockeys before the race and he mentioned that "the other jockeys had just a meeting to agree how the race was going to be run"

I presumed he meant that they had discussed wether to take things easy for the first part of the race or something like that but then I wondered why HE wasn't invited into the meeting seeing that he was one of the jockeys !!??

Any ideas what he was talking about ??

I realise that there is a bit of "dodgy stuff" in the horse racing

Re: The Derby - information please !

Horse racing is dodgy, the same as any other sport where people can talk to each other and gambling is involved. Jockeys won't discuss tactics as they are all important in a race of this stature.

This wasn't Folkestone on a wet Monday afternoon, where it wouldn't be unknown for a favourite to get ' blocked in', this was Epsom on Derby day.

If you believe that jockeys are going to collude in the worlds greatest flat race, you probably believe that man never landed on the Moon.
