speaker novice...little help please.

Hi all.

i do not know much about speakers i'm afraid.

at the moment i have a set logitech z2300 PC speakers.
now i am very happy with these - great sound IMO.

but, whenever i look at amplifiers, the outputs are the old wired speakers with clamp things (sorry don't know th ename) that are black and red.

but these speakers use a standard 3.5mm jack.

now i could replace them, but thats a shame (+ expensive) as they are perfectly fine.

so my question is, can you get amplifiers with 3.5mm connections?

thanks, any help is appreciated- sorry if this question is silly / in the wrong place...

Re: speaker novice...little help please.

basically the 3.5mm jacks are for low powered or un-amped speakers, i believe, and no, very rare to find an amplifier with 3.5mm jacks, its a bit like a childish way of connecting, bit like Lego and mechano, you could however cut the 3.5mm jack off and wire the speakers into the amplifier, but i can't see a reason for buying an amplifier in order to use existing speakers which work fine without an amplifier. If you're buying an amp, buy speakers to match, or you'll be in for some problems
