I`ve seen home cinema systemas with the dvd and speakers but dont know nothing about them , Can I just add speakers system to my current dvd recorder or am i well off base , and if you can do it what and where connects to what . Can the woofer directly connect by scart to DVD or tv .Cheers

Re: Speaker system to panny dvd recorder

you're well off base you can't just add speakers to your set up. you would need some sort of amp. the all in one units you've seen have an inbuilt amp which will then power the speakers. but these often lack extra connections on the back to connect other equipment (sky/gameconsole etc) an av amp doesn't have a dvd in but as you've got a recorder this isn't important. you can connect lots of devices to an amp but often these are sold with out speakers so you'd also have to choose speakers for it. this though will often lead to far superior quality or gives you the possibility to upgrade you sound quality (by buying better speakers). a sub would connect to either of these systems. very few tv's have a subwoofer connection on them. the px80 range doesn't. hope this makes sense and helps

Re: Speaker system to panny dvd recorder

hi mate ive just come into this predicament myself, I have a panny 42pz70b and I needed a home cinema system so to speak, I spent alot of time looking at all in one systems but couldnt find many without the dvd player included (which I didnt need), having now seen the light im going to build my system seperately, all be it costing three times more but im sure the outcome will be rewarding.

if you want to go this route then you need to start looking at an av reciever/amp as ur control station so to speak. then you can add speakers to this to complete ur system. you can spend thousands or hundreds, all depends on your budget. I came to the forum thinking of spending about 300, now it looks more like 900, which I will build over time.

Re: Speaker system to panny dvd recorder

I found the Logitech Z5500 a good stepping stone personally. They are a 5.1 speaker system that has the amp built into the subwoofer.

I personally think for under £200 they are blinding for movies. You get a powerful 10" sub, very capable satellites (considering the price) and Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. All you have to do is connect an optical cable from the panny to the Z5500 and bingo surround sound .

I had these and loved them and considering Bose (which I thought was the best ) at the time was my only comparison I couldn't understand why people spent so much on speakers. I then had a demo on a Monitor Audio R90 set and caught the AV bug .

So I 'upgraded' to a Yamaha RSV361 (a budget £100 amp) and the 'what hifi best speakers under £500' Jamo A10 5.1 speaker set. To my amazement and disappointment the Z5500s were miles better for movies. I then upgraded the amp to the one I got now and things got alot better, the satellites sounded better with music and the sub wasn't as boomy, but I still found the Z5500 more fun for movies. My nan has a Cambridge Audio 540RV2 amp and KEF KHT1005 combo and I also prefer the Z5500s for movies and so does she (my nan had them after me, until I sold them).

So I have just took an expensive step and actually got the Monitor Audios, but my point is the Z5500 take a fair whack in the wallet to be bettered for movies in my opinion

No optical on the px80. i'd maybe look at the panasonic 460 home cinema as it will work with vierra link and i think has an optical on the back. £249. or if you're looking to av amps Onkyo amps are the flavor of the month try looking at the threads already on here.

There is on the EX85 though and the PX80 has analogue outs, which the Z5500 can also accept and decode matrix 'pro logic II' 5.1.

Also going by the pathetic excuse for subwoofer in the setup you recommended I guarantee the Z5500s will out perform by a LARGE margin!
