I looked at these prior to getting my current set. Really nice package, never got to hear them but have heard some good things about them

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
Sorry for the delay, Thank you for your reply, my wife does like the look of these with the high gloss stands "look smart". I have read some customer reports on Amazon.com and they have received some very good reviews.
My only problem is I would like to keep my existing SubWoofer and save a little cash that way but I can't seem to find a supplier in the UK who will supply just individual speakers.
It looks like I will have to sell my sub and buy the whole package.
Cheers

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
I just bought the HKTS11 set, (to go with my ONKYO 505E receiver), and I am very impressed.
I bought the full package (+ the stands which do look very nice), but I noticed that Komplett will supply just the front/surround speakers: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/kl.aspx?bn=10133
You would still need the center & stands, but this would save you buying the sub.

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
Many Thanks for your reply Crite, can I ask where you got your set from and what price did you get them for.
I have decided to buy the complete package and your answer has convinced me to do that, Many thanks again .
Can I ask one more thing, is the centre speaker cable connection located in the rear middle or to one side (unusual requset but I do have my reasons )
Thanks Mate top bloke.

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
I bought my set at a shop in Germany as I'm living in Munich for the moment (Komplett in Germany had it for less than I paid, but I didn't feel to bad as I picked them up and I managed to negotiate discounted stands).
Terminals for the centre speaker are at the centre, on the bottom (the moulded stand provides the space for this and there is a gap at the back of the moulding for the wire to exit, the included wall mount has a matching hole to allow the wire out the bottom when mounted)
Interestingly the German Komplete site ( http://www.komplett.de/k/ki.aspx?sku=341281) is €449, which is cheaper than the English price ( http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=341281), which is £369 (which is about what I paid for them actually).
PM me if you want pics

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
Thanks Crite
I will be mounting the centre speaker onto the centre column of my TV unit and now I know the wire position all is well.
Very kind of you to offer pictures but I don't think it will be necessary.
Many Thanks
Paul
PS Can't wait to order them now

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
I've just set up the HKTS11 for my father-in-law and I think they perform very well as well as looking good, particularly the high-gloss stands. It always helps when trying to persuade the lady of the house that these things dont look ugly but more importantly they do perform very well.
Got an excellent deal from a shop in Northampton (that I live no where near) and they delivered them too within a couple of days.

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
Only had them a few days but haven't experienced the sub issue.
Initially I set them up with a DVD (opening scene of House of the Flying Daggers with the drums and pebbles) and the sound was fantastic.
Then stuck a CD in and it was more than adequate for my ears - also got an AirPortExpress set up into the back of the Amp and that sounded pretty good to me.
If you do get them go for the black ones with the high gloss stands unless you have a burning desire for silver, as in my opinion the black look so much better

They do music very well, not as good as full range floorstanders obviously, but as home cinema sytems go they are very good, movies are superb however, as its what they are really intended for.
The sub issue tends to be when people select the Auto on feature on the sub. It shold detect when a signal is sent to it and turn on, but during quiet parts of movies, or at low volume, the sub doesnt register as being required so switched back to Off.
Mine is set to on always, so easy to solve. The sub is incredible, looks wise and performance wise, Ive heard a few systems but never heard a sub as capable as this one, really stong but also precise.
I have changed a few of the satellites as my main focus changed more towards music than movies, but still have the sub and two rears, and cant see me changing them, they are excellent speakers.
PS: have two satellites from the set for sale if you fancy 7.1.

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
Have to agree with the others here, had Kef eggs before the HK and would say not a lot of difference in sound quality and £200 cheaper and the High gloss stands look the D*** B******S.

yeah, I would go for the black one's. I'm no audiophile but some posts have not been kind to these speakers but I have been offered a pretty good deal on them with the HK AVR 255 for less than £700. I do want surround sound but also good stereo with good bass responnse.
What is AirPortExpress??

Oh, ok thanks for that. What speakers did you get for the fronts?
I haven't even bought the speakers yet - having another listen today - so don't yet need more satellites! (thanks for the offer tho).....

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
I have Mission E34's for the fronts, have room in the lounge now for floorstanders so decided to change, but the satellites of the HKTS11 are a very good choice and I wouldnt have been unhappy to keep using them, floorstanders do a better job for music though.

£700 seems like a very good price for the avr255 and the hkts11's - that sub is still pretty expensive even online.

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
I though the AVR 255 was about £600 alone!! That means you are only paying a £100 premium for excellent surround sound speakers, is that second hand?
The sub alone must be worth a couple hundred, so even second hand its good value, the only thing I wasnt blown away with was the centre, its identical to the surround satellites but somehow (possibly due to not enough tweaking on my part) didnt give strong enough vocals/centre effects.
Im fussy about that though, most people would probably be fine with good tweaking, for me I like movie vocals to jump out at you.

No, they're all new from a major dept store here (in Australia). I think you can get the 255 for quite a bit lessthan £600 in the UK but even so I thought the deal mentioned was possibly too good to pass up on - even if I do find it necessary to buy some speakers more suited to music in the future.
I listened to the 255/HKTS11 set up recently and thought under one particular setting the centre was too dominant so I guess some tweaking would sort you out....
Are you happy with the sub's performance? I have only heard the speakers in a very large open store area, which doesn't help.
What sort of price do the Mission fronts come in at?

Re: Harman Kardon HKTS 11 Any thoughts
The sub is the best part of a very good 5.1 package, it is precise and clear and more than powerful enough. I think the sub alone must be worth a fair amount.
That's an excellent price you've got then, we tend to get ripped off in the UK.
The Missions are £300 in the UK, they were originally £600.
