downsizing the speaker setup
Hi, i have been thinking about downsizing my speakers (B&W 704 / HTM7 / DS6s3) as the front 3 take up a fair amount of floorspace .. and was maybe looking for something that can be mounted on a wall.
I dont really want to change these speakers as i love the way they sound .. but i cant help feeling that it will look a little crammed in when the sub arrives
Also, with a few changes, i am going to try and make the room look a little less like a homecinema
can anyone recommend something smaller, ? im not necessarily looking to better the speakers i have .. and am not looking for anything as small as bose cubes for eg: .. and they must be able to reach 80hz for the ideal crossover. ??
budget up to and around £800 for a 5.0 package .. and will be used for movies rather than music
its been a while since looking at speaker packages .. so, any recommendations please ?
paul

Re: downsizing the speaker setup
If looking at saveing space i would consider the M&K Xenons if they are still around as they will give superb Movie performance, they may be a little over budget but can be wall mounted.
Also why not consider the SVS speaker range as they sound really nice and will compliment the SVS sub you are waiting for again could also be mounted on the wall !

Re: downsizing the speaker setup
I went this route earlier this year, but I have to warn you that you may end up spending much more than you originally expected. I replaced some AE109 floorstanders, but the first time I went out looking I gave up as the options I tried just didn't cut it.
I revisited the problem about six months later and found that I needed to spend approx three times the original cost of the AE109s (a pair and a secondhand one as a centre) to improve on the sound with small wall mountable speakers. The speakers I finally settled on are PMC DB1s, but your tastes may be different....
Good luck with the search.

Re: downsizing the speaker setup
Thanks for suggestions guys
i like the look of the quads, they could be worth a listen .. although i am really after a 5.0 setup (i have an SVS sub on pre-order)
I have been looking at the SVS 5.0 package and now the price has gone down to £399 , based on price, and going by the reviews on here they seem to have many positive comments
downgrading the speakers doesnt really bother me .. as they will be used mainly for movies and in my experience .. its far easy to hear a difference with music, but not always the case with movies

Re: downsizing the speaker setup
You absolutely will not go wrong with the SVS speakers for movies, trust me.
I bet you'd love them.
And as has been said, they're made to match the SVS range of subs, although I'd guess the new Ultra is more aimed at the newer, bigger speakers that aren't available over here yet

Hi, i am thinking about just ordering the svs speakers, as with all svs products, i imagine they have 45day returns policy .. so if i was unhappy with them i could take them back
the only dilemma is, which to go for .. looking in the powerbuys, you can get the 5.0 package for £399.50 .. or, for another £295 you can get a pb10 as well .. i know, i know, i have an Ultra on pre-order .. but im sure £295 is a very good price for a pb10 (they are £395 in the subwoofer powerbuy) hmmm tempting
i could use the pb10 untill the Toob arrives and then maybe sell it on .. otherwise i will be subless, and have small speakers .. at the moment im using the 704's as large so they are producing at least some bass.
decisions, decisions.
