Best floorstanding speakers for a £400 budget

Looking for some new floorstanding seakers to replace my TDL KV6's. They will be connected to a Sony STR 5200es reciever and will be used for about 50/50 for music and film. Im looking at roughly around a £400 budget for a pair of floorstanders and so far i've seen the Mission M35i's, Wharfedale Diamond 9.6's and Acoustic Energy Aelite 3's. I know it's better to hear them for yourself, but until I get a chance, does anyone have a opinions on these or any other in this price range? Any help would be more than appreciated as reviews are prety thin on the ground. By the way music wise it will be mainly rock etc, so controlled bass and midranges is probably most important.

Both the Monitor Audio BR5 and the Kef iQ5SE would be worth auditioning at the price point.

Re: Best floorstanding speakers for a £400 budget

I have the aelite 5.1 system, so have the aelite threes. The aelite three's are awesome for music. I've got the Sony 1200 my mate has the same speakers with a Sony 3200. The performance is awesome. They should be even more solid through the 5200. Build quality also excellent. I recently added some sand to give them weight and noticed a nice difference in the bass. Very tight.

You can get the full 5.1 system for under £1k on the bay at the moment, direct from AE. They are also selling the fronts on their own at 50% off. Bargaintastic.

I'm thinking about getting the Arcam AVR350 so I can really put them through their paces.

If you have a surround sound receiver, what are you using for the center, rears and bass?

Re: Best floorstanding speakers for a £400 budget

Thanks for the help so far, I think I should be able to audition the aelite's and the kef's. For the moment I just have a 2 speaker setup as my current flat isn't big enough for a full 5.1 setup, but im moving to a much bigger appartment so will have room for more. Most likely to get a subwoofer next if required. I know looks shouldnt matter as much, but the aelite's look great in black. Anyway the more advice the better.
