comments on speaker choice. B&W with NAD

Ok I will be running a Couple of Bridged Nad Amps.

C372 and a C272 (will a arriving next week) and the speakers i am looking at are a Pair of B&W 703's

they will not be used at any real volume and will be mainly used for listening to CD's and Vinyl.

they will be used on their own ie stereo system (i have seperat suround setup).

will not be going up in what i am going to spend but may look down and at other makes. But having a pair of B&W has been on a wish list for some time.

Amps will not be changing as i am very happy with them and have been with the NAD sound since the mid '80's when i bought my 3130.

comments, thoughts. am i going to far with the speakers etc....

Room etc will be changing in the future so not really an issue.

Cables will be from Supra.

and Music very varied from vocal to rock.

Re: comments on speaker choice. B&W with NAD

I'm not sure about the 703, but many B&W speakers really don't like playing too soft. My Nautilus 805s feel like they open up as you go from "really soft" towards "medium" volume. So unless you're sure that the 703 will be happy to give you all it can at low volume levels, I suggest you do a serious very-low-volume listening test with at least a similar powered amp to the NADs to be sure.

Saying this, the current 800 series is supposedly much better at low volumes than the previous one, supposedly due to switching from 3rd order to 1st order simpler crossovers. I had a quick look at the B&W website and downloadable reviews of the 703 but couldn't see anything specifying how well it does low volumes. It is regarded by HFC as being hard to drive (particularly current) so the more power the better: more power will definitely equate to more detail at lower volumes.

Re: comments on speaker choice. B&W with NAD

skazz thank you very much, just the info i was looking for.

luckly the center that does tha B&W's also does Nad so i will be geting the same set up as i have at home set up there.

but i feel that that amps should be able to provide enough controll with the power that they have. Not that the second one is really needed (maybe) i will see.

After this lot is paid for it will be time for a nice turntable upgrade.

As i say the problem is room size now and posible new place and i am buying for the next (well going on the same time scale as last time) 20 years....

will report back on the results.

Edit the 805's are well within the price range might have to through them into the pot as well. but 300 watts into each of them may be a bit too much but the Bi amping is an option.... we will see.
Oh the 804 is above the limit of the currently available folding.

Re: comments on speaker choice. B&W with NAD

Well the end of the month/start of the new and things move on.
Ended up Bi-amping and not bridging... And i got the 703's. went to the shop the other weekend and had a listening room to myself with "the same hardware as i would be using and gave them a good work out. and Guess what just what i was listening for.

now just to get them burned in...

went with the black to try and break up all the wood. Must sort out the cables.
