Acoustic energy going from Aego to Aelite + what amp

Hi All,

I'm considering upgrading from a 2.1 Acoustic Energy Aego 2 system (older version of the Aego M) to either a pair of floorstanding Aelite 3's or Aegis Evo 3. The Aego 2 has performed admirably, probably the best £80 one can ever spend on audio kit. I want more though, the clarity is good, but sound lacks "energy", "fullyness", "body" - I can't really express.
My thinking is ".. need ... more... power...".

My concerns are:
- Is it worth is? All my sources are driven via an HTPC with a top notch soundcard and high quality MP3/compressed sources.
No point in upgrading if the bottleneck is the quality of the source.

- What AV/receiver to go with these floorstanders? Ideally it has a documented RS-232 interface for PC control, but that's icing.

- Subwoofer? My preferred genres tend to be movies or techno/dance music. The little aego system copes well, and I'm wondering if the bass of the floorstanders will be deep enough, or if I'll need a subwoofer too (in which case the Aelite's will have to be downgraded to the Aegis).

Cheers,
F.
