bristol sound and vision

I have been trying to find somewhere to audition lots of speakers in one go, and this show in a couple of weeks seems to be the only place to do this yet it will take me close to 6 hours to get there and the same back.. Just wanted to know if there was anywhere closer to norfolk that i could go, or wether there is another show coming up that will be better?

WILL IT BE WORTH THAT JOURNEY?

Re: bristol sound and vision

if it was me personally I would'nt bother going and see your local dealer with a list of speakers your thinking of demoing and see what they can do instead and then you'll have a proper chance to listen.

Re: bristol sound and vision

It's a good place to hear loads of speakers all on one site but the surroundings aren't ideal. The popular rooms will be crowded and frequently they are playing totally unsuitable music which you can't hear anyway as the dork in the next room is trying to show people what a cheap distorting subwoofer sounds like at full volume

Not to knock the show BUT if the building / roadworks situation in Bristol has not improved since last year then you can add another 2.5 hours to that just to get into the city and park. Which is what it took me last year to do from the M4 - M32 junction. And it took 3 hours from the same point to Ashton Park Balloon Fiesta the summer before.
I have sworn to avoid Bristol like the plague until either they sort the traffic situation or hell freezes over and it could be a gamble on which happens first.

Great show and if you love AV & HiFi then probably the best one to go to the best way IMO to get there is use the trains and then bus from the station, IIRC they run a shuttle service from the station to the show !

Impoved???? I went to the show last year and the traffic / parking was a fiasco - last time I drove through Bristol more recently, they were doing all sorts of major roadworks / redevelopment at the end of the M32, just 500mts or so from the Marriot (including, if I'm not mistaken, the demolition of the 2nd nearest car park). I'm expecting it to be worse this year if anything.

I rest my case. If you want to go and don't live in Bristol then take out a mortgage and go by rail.

Re: bristol sound and vision

If you do decide to go to the show I recommend you take the train for the last part of the journey. It's just a short walk from Bristol Temple Meads station (DON'T go to Bristol Parkway station). From the Norwich direction you could park at Reading, Didcot, Swindon, Chippenham or Bath. You have to pay for parking somewhere anyway. I've done this a couple of times before and not had any difficulty.
