Normal PC speakers would be fine. Bear in mind for any reasonable volume above that of laptop speakers, you will need to get powered speakers.
Most common of these would have an adaptor that plugs into the mains, so bear in mind you may be a little less mobile as a result.

How much is your budget, and what are your needs? How mobile are you (Is laptop in same place most of time or do you need a real on-the-go solution?)

Dan.

laptop speakers tend to be USB so that they can run off the lappy's power, rather than needing to plug them in.

Obviously you can use any kind of speakers, but it cuts down the portability.

no need to be mobile, as the laptop always in same room. but I thought you couldnt have pc speakers due to different connection into your laptop..

So thought usb was the only option. My budget is not a consideration.

so any suggestion would be a great help

Normally I run my laptop through my a/v system.

I would suggest if portability is not a concern, then I'd suggest getting a set of mains-powered speakers to reduce strain on your laptop's USB bus and power circuits.

I'd suggest just a standard set that runs from the headphone socket witha 3.5mm jack.

Popular makes include Creative & Logitech which seem to sell a lot of units that vary in price from not much more than a few pounds to hundreds.
