hello.....whats this...B&W CM1's..
Hi everyone ,
I was looking through my good old monthly hifi choice magazine when I spotted on one of B&W's adverts showing a new speaker of theirs called the B&W CM1. They look stunning!! And they retial for 800 euros, so whats that about £600. I might have to listen to these aginst the MA GS10's and the Dynaudio Focus 110's when these B&W's hit the shelves!
Can't wait to give em a listen and compare them with the MA's!! Should be quite intersting.
*cor* they look amazing!

they are fantastic speakers. Definately recommend them.
They are £500.
They are already out. Have been since just before christmas.
Make sure you get a dem of them - I hope you'll be pleasantly suprised.
P.S. If you read the 4* review What Hifi gave them, thats totally bull.

MMMMM Just thinking I am going to be using these with the Arcam A90 and P90 amp. Thats over £1300!! I doubt these speakers would do this amplification justice....I might just not bi-amp if I decide on these but just bi-wire instead. Bi-amping £1300 worth of componets to a pair of £500 speakers would defy the point of spending that on the amps in the first place realy! Well I realy must look into this!!

With that sort of amplification i would say use 705's. (If you were gonna stick with B&W) they are £900. They are a better match.
You could still bi-amp from the A90 as it has A&B outputs. Then use the CM1

i use an A5 (£1,500rrp) to get the best out of my GR10's (£800rrp)......nothing wrong with spending more on one part of your system if it helps..
try listening to the CM1's with just an A90, then with a A90+P90....see if you notice any real difference, if not then save yourself some money, bingo....heh
altho you could also try the FMJ A32 if you like the Arcam Kit.....its basically a A90 with more finesse in the sound :-)

hehe cheers once again knyght byte. But them B&W's have got a tough competition...the MA's are undeniably worth something of double there price. Even the sales guy in 7oaks agreed and what made me even more relaxed is that he himself owns a pair of MA GS10's!! I have to say though them CM1's are the god damn sexiest looking speaker I have ever seen!!

its quite likely the guy in 7oaks does own a pair, after all, cant go far wrong getting them for trade price given they are a bargain in my view at full price!...LOL

HEHE...He said they are worth something of speakers up to £5000 I thought "dont be so rediculous" but after sitting there for an hour listening to my music in a way I had simply never done before. I knew what he ment!

but the GS20's definitely hold against the £3,000 KEF Ref 203's and the GS60's against the 205's......at least from the point of view of the music i listen to (classical, jazz and ambient/trance for the most part) and the various combos of amp/players that they had in the store (MF, Arcam, Chord etc).
but £5k...heh......
mind you, i am definitely looking forward to seeing what MA pull out of the hat with the Platinums they are apparently working on........oohh...that could get shexy....heh

DD...as so many people have said, when you're beginning down the long and expensive road of HiFi or AV,just go out and listen to as many things as you can,and dont be taken in by brand names.
For sure,B&W are one of the biggest manufacturers and responsible for some superb designs, but there are lots of others to look at(and listen to!)as well.
One other thing looking at this thread and a couple of others....the price of an item doesnt always guarantee its quality, sound,or reputation, and many quite expensive systems can be out-performed by rather more carefully chosen, but ultimately cheaper gear.

yes I realy must get some time to go and catch the bus to cambridge and have a "listening day out". Could I just say refering to when I went to hear the dyns and MA's that sevenoaks (well one sales bloke inparticular but I will not say his name for obvious reasons). He realy was the most down to earth bloke when it came to selling things. He simply was not interesteed in the price but purely about the music. The sevenoaks rep wasnt pushy in anyway and he knew what to look out for in a sytem!! Well done to you!! Even the fact the sevenoaks dont deal in dyns yet they got them in for me to demo was very genergous.
Yes alexs2 there are many rivals out there that I must get round to listening to! I will keep updating this thread when I have heard anotehr peice of kit and waht I though of it!
