Is it worth the upgrade ?

Hi,

I am in two minds about upgrading my Mission 702e front speakers. I am happy with the sound but wonder if it could be better ? The 702e have served me faithfully for about 5 years, would a newer set of fronts such as the Mission 53's, Mission M33i or the Volare V62 or even a second hand pair of Mission 773's to match the centre speaker ?

I know its all personal preference but wondered if paying the extra for newer speakers would make a difference ?

Thanks for advice you can give.

HCK.

Undoubtedly it could be better. I mean you can spend many thousands on 1 pair of speakers. The question is, can you justify replacing yours if your happy with them?

Ideally a pair of 77 series would be an ideal match yes, if you can find some.

I had a pair of Mission 752's for a few years and was relatively happy with them. However, there are significantly better speakers around, which showed me how muffled and compressed the Missions were. I would recommend listening to alternative brands like Proac, Spendor, and even favourites like B&W or Monitor Audio, rather than going up the Mission ladder

I agree totally with Peter. Certainly the 702s would be outclassed by the 773Es, unless I've got my model numbers wrong....I demo'd I think the 704s years back, and frankly the pair of Wharfedale's beside it (which were cheaper...and this was before Wharfedale started making good speakers!) trounced them. There's ALOT better speakers out there....and by comparison to alot of other speakers the 773e's are (imho) warm and fuzzy...

thanks for the replys.....I alwayd found Mission to be on the bright side.....but then that could be my untrained ear!!

I would prefer to keep them in the same range/series if possible as the my budget cant afford upgrading to a different manufacturer. I think I will go and demo some of the latest Mission's.

Thanks once again.
