Is This a Decent Setup?

Hey all,

I used to be using a small Technics Mini Hifi (must've been like 20w RMS) with the included Technics Bookshelf speakers. I've been using them with my PC and they're a lot better than the speakers on my Panasonic L32G20B and other computer speakers.

Though recently I've been given a Pioneer A351-R Amplifier, a Pioneer Graphic Equalizer and a pair of Acoustic Research Spirit 152's. For free, Completely working.

I've had them plugged in and they already seem a lot better than my Technics setup. And I assume the Pioneer stuff is good.

However I can't seem to find anything about the speakers? They're huge speakers, looks like an 8" woofer. Does anyone have any info on these? Are they any good? What are the specs? etc etc

Thanks for any help.

Also, the Acoustic Research Spirit 152 speakers have dual outputs for bi-wiring. And the Pioneer amp has separate A+B channels.

Could I connect the HF terminals from the speaker to Channel A and the LF terminals to the Channel B? Would that be bi-amping?

Yes, you could do that if you wanted.

No. Not if the A and B are just switched outputs anyway. You would be bi-wiring.

Also, ditch the equaliser. It will do nothing other than making the sound worse.

I don't think they're switched outputs? I can run both channel A and channel B at the same time?

Also why would the equaliser make it sound worse?

Source direct almost always produces the best sound i.e. no tone controls (or by-passing) or no equaliser.
Equalisers tend to stray away from the way the recording was intended and generally ruin the musical ability of a system, their are exceptions of course, but in this case Wilseus is right.
