Best Budget Speakers?

Hello everyone,

I'm a bit stuck with choosing to buy some speakers, I have never actually bought or owned any proper speaker systems before, so my friend suggested I come to these forums for help.

Basically, the downside on my 24" HD LED tv is that the speakers do not hold up very well at all, and I have been meaning to buy some to replace them.

I don't want to go too serious at all, but my price range can be between £30 and £60, spending as least amount of money would be best, but I do not mind pushing my budget for a really, really good deal.

I do not have one of the biggest rooms, hence why I have quite a small TV, I would not mind surround sound, In fact I'd probably like it, as long as I don't have to spend too much, otherwise I would be happy with just a soundbar, but of course, I don't know what or where to start looking.

If anyone can help and give me some links to look at I will be very grateful, thanks in advance.

I can't really help with links to speakers but what I will say is that with your budget I would look at stereo rather than surround sound ! Just spending your money on two speakers and a two channel amp rather than trying to get 5 speakers 5 amplifiers and a sub.

My best advice would be to put a wanted advert up in the forums classifieds someone may have an old amp.and speakers there willing to pass on !

For <£60 I wouldn't recommend an amp/stereo speakers combo, never mind a surround setup.
Ideally you'll want to stretch to a powered stereo setup, something like the Microlab Solo 6C - see a few reviews, here and here. They're around £80 from Amazon, possibly slightly cheaper from other sources.

Would something like this not be ideal?

Could you look at the 2nd hand market?

I was thinking that a 2nd hand mini system with speakers could give a great result for the funds you have. Perhaps something like the Denon M31 - you'd get a CD player, a Radio and a couple of inputs for your TV and perhaps an iPod/iPhone dock. I noticed a couple of systems on ebay currently bidding around 35 quid.

No,

Those things will not give you decent sound for a tv imo.

The above suggestions are good.

To get more oomph out of a speaker you need a) size b) amplification.

You plug these into your tv will either not work or the sound will be very quiet as it wont even have te onboard amplification the tvs speakers have.

Also the sub cant be plugged into the tv.

You need a 2 channel amplifier and speakers.

Good suggestion =)

Also looking at classifieds on here as some real bargains can be had and being av enthusiasts tend to care more for their gear

How about this amp http://www.avforums.com/forums/ampli...io-a4-amp.html

You may get lucky and get one cheaper on ebay!

Then you need to search for some cheap speakers!

Last year I sold some Mission M73 for £35 they would probably be a good match!

Denon UD M31 CD Receiver with speakers and remote control | eBay

Denon UD-M31 CD Receiver Micro Mini Hifi Mission Speakers with Remote Control | eBay

(I hope it's ok to post these... can confirm that none of these auctions are mine nor am I connected to the sellers)

Probably ok - but really can't see the point with just connecting to a TV and using 5.1 ... I'd go the 2nd hand hifi market and get yourself something that you can use for music too.

If you are using COMPUTER 5.1 speakers, likely you will not be able to drive them with your TV.

Computers have specific individual outputs for Left/Right, Center, Left/Right rear, and Sub. Your TV will at best have Stereo or Headphone output.

If you move to a Speaker/Amp system that has HDMI input, then that would work with your BluRay/DVD and TV.

Given your budget, I think the best you can do will be either Active (built-in amps) Computer speakers in either 2.0 or 2.1. This assumes your TV has a Headphone output.

The Deno UD-31 system would work, but for best results we would need to know what AUDIO OUTPUTS your TV has.

Just a few thoughts.

The Logitech X-540 has the ability to give a quasi-surround sound (5.1) from a stereo source using it's Matrix mode. They would give you "louder" with more bass than your tv but not even vaguely hifi.
