KRK Rokit 5 + iMac 21.5" + external sound card?

Hello people!

I have a 21.5" iMac and Rokit 5 monitors.

Do you reckon an external sound card will do me any good, in terms of enhancing the quality of the audio? And if so, what one(s) do you recommend? I have a budget of around £50-100 ($80-160).

Thanks everyone!

Push your budget up to around £300 and the answer is, yes, it probably will sound better.

How good a external Sound Card in the £50 to £100 range will sound is debatable.

There is a Behringer USB audio interface that is very low cost, about £35; though I can't remember the model number. A few members have this device and are pleased with it. But I can't personally say with any certainty that will will sound better than a direct wire connect.

Found it -

Behringer UCA202 USB Soundcard - Google Search

Depending on where you are, the Audio Streamer II Asynchronous USB DAC can be had for about US$160

I know Audioengine makes a USB DAC, let's see if I can find something on it -

Audioengine D1

Audioengine D1 - Google Search

Audioengine is a company founded by a couple of engineers who previously worked for APPLE.

Perhaps others will have other recommendation for an External USB DAC

Are you doing music production? I ask because they are monitor as opposed to your more normal hifi speakers. I have a set of KRKs which I use for such but I use an E-MU 1616 (~£200) but only because it does proper ASIO as opposed to using ASIO4ALL and has a range of different I/O but that is the only reason.

Yeah I am actually! Producing hip-hop using Logic. The E-MU 1616 is way out of my price range unfortunately! Looks like a really good piece of equipment though.
