Arcam A18 with Cambridge Audio 640R (vol# needs to be high)

Hi

I have hooked my Arcam A18 integrated amp to the pre-outs on the CA 640R av receiver. so that the a18 takes care of stereo and the CA takes care of the center, rears and sub.

I have got it all setup and working but the only thing that concerns me is that the stereo amp needs to be on near max volume to match 640r that powers the other speakers.

The Arcam is loud enough at 35 with a cd player, but when i switch the 640r on with it for sky or dvds i have to bump up the volume to 60 on the arcam.

Is the normally the case when you use an integrated amp with a av receiver?

I dont know specifically but I do know that playing a cd through my cd player through my amp is a lot louder than playing my laptop or tuner through the amp.
